I just need the plate, the clutch hard line, the gear oil and the money for the driveshaft. I really want to know if the braided line goes to the hard line from the slave cylinder, or can it link straight from the clutch master cylinder to the slave with proper length?

A shop by me said they'd build me an aluminum shaft for $350.00. I saw the cheapest gear oil offer by lucas. Go to http://www.buylucasoil.com/viewitem.asp?itemid=10048. It is the cheapest price I've seen all over the internet; plus it's Lucas so I trust it. Ima order like 4 gallons to do the diff and transmission and to have enough for 3 changes. Well good luck with the part search.

All you need to do is lengthen the stock driveshaft by 6 inches.. I paid like $150 or something like that.

Hey No Chain, were you able to get the transmission and other stuff? I will be ready to do teh job in 3 weeks max. I wonder if the aluminum shaft will make the car drive faster due to it being lighter? Anyway, just wanted to holer back and not leave you hangin'.

HAHAHAHAHAH
Just got my trans, flywheel, pedals, and starter.
Had to drive 3hours to san diego in this crazy storm and then pull it out in the rain and mud but I got all of this for $300.
Just waiting for paypal to fix a mistake then hopefully I can order my plate on tuesday.
Then all I need is a clutch, driveshaft, and shifter

Ok so I am really confused on this flywheel spacing thing I keep hearing that this needs to be done but I have no idea what their talking about?
So what needs to be done so I can bolt the z32 flywheel on and install the clutch, trans ,etc.
I havent had a chance to get under there and get to work cause of all the rain but I would like to have a plan of attack when the rain stops so I can get my trans ready to go in.
Any imput?

since you'll be using an adapter plate, you will need to space out the flywheel so that the starter will mesh with the ring gear properly. The only reason you need to use a spacer is because the starter is mounted on the trans, not on the engine.. So, if you move the trans farther away from the engine, due to an adapter plate, you have to move the flywheel/clutch the same distance.

On my car we simply used the stock Z32 flywheel bolts, and the OEM (roughly 1/8") spacer that comes with the VH behind the AT flexplate.

Finally it makes sense haha
I still have to remove my torque converter and flexplate so I had no idea that there was a spacer back there.

Wes you are using a NA clutch right? What brand are you running? I want to use the NA flywheel cause I got it with my trans but I need something that can handle the abuse of my driving and the power of the VH and not cost $500 bucks hahah

I'm running a south bend clutch... which I think is DXD clutches, either way I got a pretty good deal on it and I'm happy. I think I got the stage II clutch which holds like 350 ft-lbs, but I'd have to go back and check my records to be sure..

Its definitely a heavy clutch, but its got great feel and its easy to drive smooth when you don't want to drive like a maniac.. :) Your left leg will love you after you get caught in heavy traffic the first few times!!

BTW.. I am getting my shifter redone today to fit in the stock trim piece, should be done in a couple hours... Should look OEM.

I'll check them out thanks for the info

What exactually is being done to your shifter? You have to post pics haha

I want my swap to look as OEM as possible I even have a few ideas for the e brake as well. I saw the e brake handle from an I30 in the junk yard and it looked like it would be right at home in the Q haha. What I was thinking was using an earlier model Q center console and cutting a hole to fit the hand brake through and if I take my time and do it right it should look stock.....maybe?

Basically what I had done was they welded a piece of stainless rod onto the existing shifter.. I'll take a picture of the assembly but heres a shot of the completed deal with trim piece in place and home-made shift boot

For an E brake I was contemplating using some sort of electric actuator.. My parents have a brand new buick lacrosse and thats how the E brake works, rather than having a hand brake which is good for me.. It would simplify the installation and not make the interior look weird.. I think it'd be too difficult to try and rig up a hand brake and make it look stock..

if I were going to use a hand brake, i would probably do something Jaguar XJ6 style where its actually on the floor next to the seat.. :)

Looks awesome

Seems like the rain might have stoped here for now. Maybe I can get out there tomarrow and make some progress with the interior like getting the pedals mounted.

Maybe I should just hold off on the e brake for now and if it really bugs me go from there.

Did you use the stock q45 drive shaft? I noticed that it fits in the z32 trans but it seems like if wouldnt go far enough in and the bolts on the shaft look like they could be in the way

Wes why not do something from a Nissan Leopard?

Put something like that between the seat heater switches.

Thanks Wes. I have been waiting for what seems lie forever. I will beable to buy January 1, 2011. Are the plates full circle? Are they truly fitted for the best installation tolerances? Lastly, how do you want to be paid?

Thanks Nochain. Good deal. Let's call you the rain man, lol. I took my parts out by laying in glass and dirt. I have everything except the adapterplate too. So I'm ready to get the car back running.

Hey just as a side note. I am interested in putting the bmw headlights on the car and making the fogs hid's. I saw that only a few people have done it and that one person has done it correctly with body work. I want to paint the Q after the conversion and didn't know if I have to cut the body on the BMW and have it welded to the Q to make the lights snug. Any desire/information?

Glass thats no fun I would way rather be all muddy hahah jk

Haha I am right there on the plate I am just 15 bucks short and it seems like it is taking forever to get it.

Then I need to decide on what clutch I want to use.

got mine on ebay for 329. 12lbs flywheel and stage II or III clutch. I realized the lighter the flywheel the more the horsepower regardless of the stage of the clutch. I don't know what's best, but the stage of the clutch doesn't matter with price. I saw the stage III FOR THE SAME price as the II. The key seemed to be the flywheel. So, I would go with the cheapest stage III kit possible and then buy a transmission rebuilt kit and clutch kit for your next clutch maintenance. I went with F1 racing clutch from ebay. Negotiate the price to the seller's base price. My kit was 350 and after negotiation i paid 325. 300 for the kit and 25-29 for shipping.

haha I was totally contemplating an ebay clutch I had my eye on the XTD stage 3 clutch kit its like 170ish with shipping.

I am going to run the stock flywheel since I already have it. If i do decide to rip the trans back out I may put one in.

What I would really like to get is a Spec stage 2 or 3 they are about 20 dollar price diff but the 3 will handle up to 500 torque
But the Spec stage 3 is 320 bucks

Does brand really matter or will they both hold the power no prob. I dont mind running an ebay clutch I had one in my z31 and that was makeing around 300whp and that clutch was rated for 250 and help it no prob even when I bumped the boost another 5 psi ( too bad the motor couldnt handle it blew the headgasket a week later )

Don't think brand really matters. I like the F1 kit cuz its blue and marketed the way that makes me think its better. As long as the clutch can hold over 300hp, you should be fine. Just try and get one that can stand up to the output of the vh45.

I think on my pilot bushing I needed to have a TINY TINY bit machined off for it to fit in the VH45 crank properly.. Might check with some of the guys in the VH forum..

I just found a pic and it looked like he just pulled the bushing and put the 300zx bearing in and that was it......should I just do that and leave it like that......idk it just looked like there was enough room to put the bushing back on and I wasnt sure if you were supposed to put it back on.
