I think the 3.5SE will get beaten by not much. it has a worst power to weight ratio and less torque plus the definitive advantage of the RWD in drag can't be ignored. all the weight will be shifted to the back and he will get monster traction off the line. FWD can only win from a roll versus a RWD or AWD with same power to weight ratios.felv8 wrote:Hey guys, I wanted to get some thoughts, comments, and concerns on my current situation.
Basically, A friend of mine jumped on the Genesis coupe bandwagon recently, and has been backing its "incredible" power before any official numbers are out (in regards to performance specs). He came up with the idea to test drive one this weekend and meet me in an isolated location for a 1-on-1 run. I happily agreed, thinking he was full of it, but now I actually think he's going through with it.
SO! Let's get down to the details:
hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8L V6-curb weight: 3549-flywheel HP: 306-torque: 263ft.-lbs at 4700 rpm.-additional info: Hyundai's only performance estimate: the V6 will make it to 60mph in "under 6 seconds."
My 3.5L A/C 6MT-curb weight: 3241-flywheel HP: over 270? *see below-torque: over 258ft.-lbs at 4400 rpm..? *see below-additional info: I have the Injen intake, Uderdrive Pulley, short throw shift kit, rear sway bar, eibach springs.
This is suppose to go down this weekend, but some uncertaintities such as, if they'll let him test drive it solo or in manual/automatic will also play a roll in the overall equation.
I believe that my shifting is relatively stellar, based on the fact that I've been driving only manual transmissions for close to 10 years and the STS kit is much faster/smoother too.
What do you guys think.? I'm def going through with it regardless, but was curious to know how my chances look before going into this.

That doesn't take into account some of the design flaws that the Genesis apparently has - I've yet to see a Genesis report for sure, but I've only hear low 6's on it, simply due to a torque issue when shifiting...felv8 wrote:Thanks for the info Mehdi! I was actually plugging in some numbers earlier into this 0-60 calculator http://www.060calculator.com/
factoring in curb weight and FWD, bone stock it spits out 5.834, but changing the HP to:
280 gets you 5.67
290 gets you 5.52
300 gets you 5.39 (although I'm almost positive I'm not in this range- maybe with the powerpup, who knows...)
The Genesis specs, plugged in, gets you 5.25! The RWD is huge factor, but I'm almost positive my buddy will burn too hard on the launch..
should be interesting nonetheless, and apparently he'll be able to test drive it, but I'm not sure if they'll let him go solo. I test drove a 350z solo a couple of years ago and I was only 22-23, so I guess you never know..
interesting.. Is this for the Sedan or coupe?marlin29311 wrote:

yep, pulls harder soonerfelv8 wrote:

Both cars have practically the same Torque (258 and 263), but at different RPMs. Having it at 4400 seems to be an advantage every way I look at it, no?
good call on the pre-burnout. I'll have my camera on me, just in case, and I'll have 2 of my buddies try and film it.. That's if everything goes according to planHussain wrote:i remember people saying that the sort of rule of thumb is that for every 10 pounds, that equals about 1 hp. so if the genesis is 300 more pounds, then it would need 30 more hp then the coupe to be as fast. the coupe has 270 so the genesis is right on par BUT if you have mods it could be another story... i mean testing my car before and after i got my cat-back exhaust, i saw a .2 sec decrease in the 1/4 mile (went from a 14.4 to a 14.2). and the 6 speed is already supposed to get a 14.2 stock..... all i can say is that if you do decide to race him, make sure you do a good burn out first so that your tires are warm and sticky and you can stick to the ground much better when you launch it hard

Edmunds has its own special times. if you are shocked by their 6.4 sec times wait till you read the time they got for the CVT altima coupe... 6.4 SECS!!!crayzitalian3 wrote:there is a comparison test of it against the g37 and the Genesis got owned bad. the Genesis coupe hit 60 in mid 6's, when i saw it i was shocked but not badly though because i didn't expect to much from hyundai, no offense
funny you say that. people that like the genesis coupe don't like it for it looks (some do, good for them) . the main point of the genesis coupe is CHEAP RWD 2+2 sport coupe. to not understand this at this point is really really incredibleRmuth25 wrote:All those numbers are nice, the rear of the Gensis is nice, but I just cant get past the classic looking hyundai baby face up front. People may be mad at me but i think the genis coupe looks like the altima coupe hahah Obviously it looks different but i almost see the same car.Rmuth25 wrote:All those numbers are nice, the rear of the Gensis is nice, but I just cant get past the classic looking hyundai baby face up front. yes this is true. i'm just saying that because i raced my friend's G35 coupe a few times on empty streets and the time that i did a pre burnout, i got pretty much 100% traction of the line. i didnt hear any screech and just launched hella crazy. i have CVT so 6 speed will still get some wheel spin but should help since people were saying traction is an issue with FWD.DAAN. wrote:We need to have similar initial conditions so we can get an unbiased result on car versus car.
Tell him to do a good burnout as well- otherwise you ruin the whole experiment
ya i pretty much call edmunds failures in life... well the guys that drive the cars that is. i think they got like 15 secs in the 1/4 mile for the CVT when i got a 14.4 stock and they got like a 14.8 for the stick when people have gotten a 14.2 lolmcheddadi wrote:

Yea, I think everything but the front is really nice, but I just cant get past that at least from the pictures it resembles all the Accents and Elantras that have been built in the past 5 or so years.mcheddadi wrote:

I think in terms of depreciation rate Hyundai is fighting an uphill battle, with maybe the exception of the Sonata. No one is buying used tiburons or elantras solely because they were cool and unattainable brand new. I predict the same thing will happen with the Genesis (especially with subpar performace ratings within it's class), are people going to buy this car used after 2-3 years? Are they going to continue to market it's image and alleged power year after year to perpetuate another even better line of Genesis coupes? How many of us played around with the idea of buying a used Z, g35, g37, evo, sti at some point.. That's the driving force that makes a particular product line successful, not smokes and mirrors. I like the brembos and the limited slip diff thoDAAN. wrote:There is a bodykit available in Korea
Don't blame their team for doing something stupid as leaving the front like Elantra / Tirburon. Nissan screwed up, too.For some stupid Nissan marketing strategy, our car is called an Altima, although it shares only the hood panel (exterior) with that ''interesting'' car
That will burn us when we will trade ours in
