The limiter isn't related to the transmission. All 2.5s are limited to about 113 MPH, while the 3.5s are limited to something closer to 140-145 MPH (if memory serves me correctly). And no... I have not been there.

I'm pretty sure that's not exactly accurate.... from all of our accounts, the 2008 3.5's all come with V rated tires, these have a maximum speed rating of 149 mph... however, foks with the 3.5CVT are limited to ~130 mph...

Okay, you may be right, Rob. I don't have any track where I'll get much past 120-125, so I'll likely never know. I thought there had been previous mention here of 142 for both trannies but I may well be thinking of info read elsewhere (and possibly less accurate).

Any idea why the CVT would be governed lower?

no i dont think thats right because i've done 130 MPH and i think i even did 135 mph (dont remember cuz i was busy watching the road) but both times i never hit a limiter.... i usually let off at 120 or 125 cuz no need to any faster but ya, i think the limiter is in the 140's

My fiance's brother called me out last week saturday night. He has 08 G35XS. We know this spot that has few cars during the day and at night is almost completely deserted and its about 2 miles of straight road, 3 lanes and smooth. We did 20 rolls till his limiter at 130... From 20 to 70 i'm out front half a car then he reels me in and is about a fender in front till about 115 then at 120ish i reel him and we're dead even as he hits the limiter on his car... its a nice run, pretty much like when my cousin had his 04 g35 6mt with a CAI, now he has a g37s and that thing is pretty quick... i'll post the link to the video of me doing a run with my friend's TL and another friend's turbo scion tc (video shot from inside of my car) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGeNOcsdVv4

Well, I've hit the limiter on my car, and it has never gone past 135...also, I've raced Shawn b4 coming back from a canyon run, his car continuously pulled away from mine once I hit my limit (he has a 3.5 manual)... I suggest you find a straightaway, floor it, and I guarantee you won't make it past 135 either! As a matter of fact, since I've been on NICO... NOONE with a CVt has made it past 135, not even Blake, with his turbo (and its not from lack of running space as his car gets to 135 pretty quick.) Nissan di*ked the CVt owners my dude

ya nissan did do the CVT guys dirty... we start getting a little slower at 90 MPH and at 120 we're HELLA SLOW!!! doesn't the bully dog tuning thing get rid of that gradual let off stuff? we need someone with a CVT to get that thing and test it out for once and all

I've seen no sign of gradual slowing at 90 or 120, which is about the fastest I've had mine yet. It has continued to pull strong right up to that speed.

many people have noticed it and with the last generation altima sedans it was proven on a dyno or something..... when ever i used to race my buddy, i'd beat him but then once we hit about 100 or 110 i stop pulling instantly and by 120 MPH i'm watching him pass me with ease.

You guys are nuts!!

If we get caught at speeds of 35 mile over the limit, the car is taken. In the east, the car is destroyed by authorities under same conditions.

I'm not disputing that you are experiencing it, just saying that I am not. Maybe the 09s are different? I haven't gone fast enough to hit the limiter, but I have gone fast enough to know that there is no fade of power all the way to 120 MPH (190 km/h here). In fact, at 180+, the speedo is still climbing like it doesn't want to stop.

Daan, the only time I have run that fast on the road, it has been basically a closed course, with radio contact to 'spotters' at both ends.

hmmm could be something changed on the 09's, i have no idea....

and about the speeding, i do it in short bursts.... if your on an empty road with no one around you can do 100 MPH very fast, in fact i usually do 100 MPH on accident going to school... someone cuts in front of me and then decides to hit there brakes and go slow for no reason (happens everyday) so i hit the gas and go around them, look at the speedo and im doing 100 MPH

ya i posted that vid before.... it was a 3.5se sedan with headers, intake, exhaust, tune, and idk what else but no turbo no supercharger and no nitrous.... it was some arab guys in the middle east.... the speedo only goes to 160 MPH (dont know how many km/h that is) so they guy had the needle go past and cover some of the screen, looked like the needle was going to break lol

Certain stretches of highway in Cali lend itself to that. Plus, the guys I was with both had radar detectors, and they were BOTH in front of me... to be honest, my ba**s aren't big enough to run long distances at that speed, only short stretches.. but Shawn and Damien, those guys are nuts..lol... (in a good way) they do 120 like its nothing..., also, the way the highway is set up, everyone is already speeding a bit (going like 80-90mph), so if there's a sped trap ahead, we'd see folks with their brake lights on in plenty of time to slow down

No. Just like Robert said. 148 mph for the 6 speed 3.5 Altima, 135 for the CVT 3.5 Altima, and 113 for all 2.5L due to OEM tire speed rating. Nothing changed for 09. The 3.5 CVT does pull all the way to 135, but I assure you with factory programming, it stops there.

Thanks RJ and Adidas Those speeds are incredible here. They were common back in Europe, but here 65 - 70 miles / h is max (legal) on highways

wow i must have almost hit the limiter because i know i've done 130 MPH and i think even a tiny bit more and never hit the limiter lol do you by any chance know why the CVT is limited lower? can CVT go really high top end without messing up with the limiter taken off?

Guys, I understand you may like to go fast... but lets keep the chatter about driving 100+ on public roads to ourselves...

Its dangerous, and I dont want to feel bad when theres a pic posted of an alti on its roof and the time of the wake...

Theres plenty of LEGAL places around where you can "open her up" without having to worry about dumb drivers, road conditions, police etc...
