Even though those of us in California have it pretty bad compared to the rest of the States, look at Europe. Most of the world's oil is index-linked to OPEC, right? So gas prices around the world shift at relatively similar rates.
Since the rest of the world goes by liters, here's what one liter of gas cost in US currency around the world last August. (Old data, I know, but the trend continues today.)
UK 1.176 Norway 1.142 Finland 1.109Netherlands 1.031 France 1.005 Belgium 0.988 Italy 0.979 Sweden 0.978 Denmark 0.966Germany 0.930Austria 0.851Ireland 0.845 Hungary 0.819Portugal 0.788Switzerland 0.771Poland 0.759Luxembourg 0.757Greece 0.744Spain 0.735Czech Republic 0.735USA 0.394
WTF? The USA pays the least? Remember that 1 gal = 3.8 L. Multiply all those numbers by 3.8 and you'll see why the world thinks the US is a bunch of whining biatches. (ex. 1 gal in UK = 4.469US)
But yes, $3.00/gal blows.
