hmmm, what do you guys think? i know the price is steep. but, i know that you can get a "stage 1" kit from many companies that put the output at about 500 crank hp, for about $1500, and it will still be mild when you want it to be, eg. daily driving. do you guys think that the engine bay is very cramped? how much does it weigh down the front, more than an rb25? if someone can afford it, it seems to me to be a very reasonable upgrade, considering how well built the engine is, and if anything breaks, then your car isnt in the garage for "3-6 weeks" while your parts are being shipped from specialty companies like motorex, im talking about minor things, like a clutch master/slave cylinder, etc. that arent available for an rb. also, you get a 6-speed transmission, and choosing the 240 over the supra, besides the 80% difference in cost, would be almost a 1000 pounds. not trying to defend this or anything, just came across it and it seemed like a pretty good idea for what i think is the best option ive seen for a 240 that's a reliable daily driver with more than enough power. and yes, i realize you'd need another $5k min. in upgrades to suspension, clutch/maybe flywheel, etc.

dear god. Then again I don't see why you couldn't squeeze more power out of the rb26dett in a 240 than a 2jz, afterall hks runs a drag 180 with amazing power. just my thoughts.

i think that is a sweet idea, its just Im kinda partial to nissan. Im not sayin the 2jz block isnt great, b/c its outstanding, but I would rather put my money into an rb26 if I was that rich. I have seen reports and dyno sheets on 26s making over 1600hp at the wheels runnin 9.6s on DOT tires(skyline AWD). I just think the rb26/25 is a cooler engine period. Notice Im not sayin that I wouldnt kill for a TT Supra, bc I would.

I like that idea, but not as much as a worked over 350.

but an rb doesnt have a 6 speed if it were put into our cars, and if anything broke there arent replacement parts immediately available. i dont really think taht the 2jz swap is for "rich" people either, if you add that $5k, considering a s13 goes for about $2-3k (mine was 2100), you could get a discount if you paid in cash and had them do the drivetrain/other mods too, then you would have a 450-500 horsepower very tame beast, all for about $16k, the price of a new econobox. as for the 350, i think i prefer boost, the lime creek 240 is fast in the quarter, but my car would be for highway just as much, if not more. not saying those are bad ideas, just counterpoints, id love an r34, but if i have only the engine, not the transmission or drivetrain, then i think i would rather have a 2jz. and what i know about the 2 engines, i think toyota's engine is more reliable, it's a known fact that toyotas never die.

I wonder why that guy at exvitermini.com swapped an rb26 into his supra than? They are both just as reliable in my opinion.

well done swap, but i'd like to see what it did to the balance of the car. it seems to sit pretty far forward in the engine bay. i was planning on putting a 2jz in a Mitsubishi Starion but lost interest when i was looking for a motor to buy.

Not really. Do you know anyone from top secret...maybe they just wanted to be different. Why do peopel swap out KA's......when they are just as capable of making SR20 numbers with about the same amount of money..............

I think top secret did it because supra has aerodynamics and rb26 has power so it was the best combo imo

I think you dont know what youre talking about. BNR34 is one of few chassis in the world that does not produce lift over 100mph stock. MKIV Supra chassis is not on that list. Supra chassis is no more aerodynamic than skyline.

cellz, you dont know what you are talking about.

also, that website and pic is a fake. read that site, it is a joke.

i have a pic somewhere of a 240 that i swapped a 1jz into. it is 2jz's higher revving brother

Wow thats nice, cool idea, but i'd have to say im not allowed to do something like that.........I'd get myself killed. 2JZ in a 240, odd combo i think.

Consider this my public service for the year: Just because a car is round shaped does not make it aerodynamic. You are free to make your own theories on automotive aerodynamics after you have a degree in physics or automotive engineering. Until then refrain from making your own assumptions.

Is it just me or should new members be required to ask questions and only monitor posts until they have 100 posts of legitimate questions before they are allowed to post anything other than a question. At least then theres a chance they wouldnt be filling people full of crap when they try to answer a question or give reasoning for something

I'm with you on that one. NICO is just a board for people to spout misinformation like that. I suggest the veterans abdicate to somewhere that fits us better........

kind of elitist isnt that? 2jz prices are through the roof. also, i dont think the 6speed was ever offered here. anyone know for sure? that would eliminate the idea of clutches replaced by firestone. 2jz is a fine motor but i really dont see the point of going with one without first exausting the rb26. that my friend would be a serious task and the switch may not get you any better off. the rb30 would make a fine substitute for the 2jz. the only reason i can think of to put a 2jz in a 240 would be to stand out from the sensible and be included with the nonconformists. if that is an accurate description of you then i have two words...

...JDM TIGHT YO!

that is kind of a japaneese habit, the act of doing something just to be different. its cool, but in that "you do it, i watch" kind of way. i will be installing a 2jz in a friend of mines 2nd gen supra sometime in the near future. that is the only reason i even have an opinion other than "nissan rules".

rb30 could not hold a candle to a 2jz. rb30 is single cam and needs to be built to hold the same power.

btw, 6speeds were offered in supra with 2jz's

I think he means RB30 block mated to RB26 head. Requires alot of custom work though. Head stud pattern must be redrilled, Custom oil pump and sump I believe, and oil squirters added. Probably alot more I dont know/cant remember.

i thought/asked about the swap back when i was a newbie, but soon learned that it would be VERY VERY expensive due to all of the custom work that had to be done like harness/mounts etc. if u really want something that crazy, get an RB26 and a T88 for it.

rb25 head will bolt right on to the rb30 block. i know the supra was offered in japan with the getrag six speed. what i dont know is if it was offered in the us with that box. i was under the impression that it was not, but not sure.

i cant believe nobody said, "jdm tight yo, thats 3 words". i thought it would be a funny little progression. oh well.

I can think of a few reasons to go with a 2JZ instead of an RB. The RB is not available here through Nissan. So it will not be legal on the street in a car. More particularly in CA where it would never pass emissions. The 2JZ can be made legal here in a 240sx.

The 2JZ has tons of aftermarket support here. The RB stuff is still a bit harder to get. The technical knowledge of the 2JZ here in the states is much more available than the RB as well.

The US used the same transmission(Getrag) except for one year when they couldn't get it through the OBDII compliance testing in time for it's release. I believe that was in 1996. The 6 speed is a sweet transmission. It makes missing gears almost impossible. Anytime you shift, you just know when you are in gear.

2jz would not be legal in a 240 in california

it has to be the same manufacturer

s13sr20chris, us supras definitely came with 6speeds.i know you didnt know, now i am telling you.
