Actually to be registered as a kit car in many states it only has to be an engine that was produced legally in the US. The cassis can be anything since its a kit car.

The 2JZ has tons of aftermarket support here. The RB stuff is still a bit harder to get. The technical knowledge of the 2JZ here in the states is much more available than the RB as well.

The US used the same transmission(Getrag) except for one year when they couldn't get it through the OBDII compliance testing in time for it's release. I believe that was in 1996. The 6 speed is a sweet transmission. It makes missing gears almost impossible. Anytime you shift, you just know when you are in gear.

all excellent reasons to...

...buy a supra!looks good on paper anyway. you will have double wishbones up front instead of that darned strut type suspension. you will be mobbed by affectionate fans of your car everywhere you go. heck now i want one. hmmmm, nope. i still want a skyline.

in the above post i meant no offense by my sarcasm.

i am guessing he is refering to "kit car" status as opposed to regular passenger car status. another option may well be street rod status.

fine register it any way you want. those ideas are just creative exploitation(in a good way) of the laws of the land. here in virginia you can register anything you want as a street rod with a few qualifiers and restrictions. the upside is that it can have anything and everything you want. heh, stupid is as stupid does.

Ok, If you want a legal engine swap of an engine your car didnt come with, you may end up registering it as a kit car. Thats what I was referring to. Didnt think I had to clarify it.

come to think of it, there is a federal regulation on larger displacement swaps. i dont think its legal according to a certain blue law.
