Oh yeah, I understand the concept. I just wonder if I drove on a straight and level road with minimal speed changes until the gas tank ran dry...what would the end result be other than stranded with no gas...haha.

Also depends on what speed you drive at. The MPG vs Velocity curve is somewhat of a bell curve...somewhat similar... not to mention that each engine has it's own "sweet spot" of maximum MPG.
