"pulls for a while" doesnt exactly explain when it dumps off.. does it dump before or after 5.5k revs?

this was in refernece to the issue of power leg in the lower RPM range, not when it loses power in the upper range. would be interested in knowing just what the approx. power band is. pulling in the 2500 range would be a lot more fun that getting that pull in the 3200 range

mainly shifts the power band higher, but it also pulls harder than it normally would.

So Lets Me Get This Straight.

S14 KA = 248/248

S13 KA = 232/232

So I Doesn't Matter Which S13 323 Cam (Exhaust/Intake) I Take, As Long As I Put It On The Correct Side On My S14 KA. (And Set The Teeth Back 4 YadaYadaYada...)

No that's wrong. S13s are 240/248 and S14s are 232/232. So you NEED the exhaust cam of an S13 to do the swap. And yes 4 teeth CCW. If you search there is a thread where this guy did all the different combination and he liked 248/232 the best (besides re-drilling which is to much work for me)

Did any of you guys redrill your intake cam gear? Will it really change much? I mean, if its just marking a hole and drilling it i think thats what Im gonna do anyway.

Cam probably broke because it was dropped, or something was dropped onto it, at one point.

I was doing work on an RB25 car, which had a knocking motor, so the asian kid who owned the car sourced me another motor and I put it in. Ran great, drove around for an hour, and then the cam broke at the gear on the exhaust side, all of the exhaust side valves smashed. I raged hard.

Then spent a weekend swapping heads from the old blown motor.

One happy asian kid.

why? it's just extra unnecessary work if all you want is the cam swap.

possibly, but that's the risk you take buying used parts. i got really lucky in that the motor didn't take any damage. really REALLY lucky.

I take it you didnt read that thread then... nevermind i guess. Basically an exhaust cam isnt designed to be used as an intake cam. Yea, rotating it a few teeth makes it so it runs and works pretty well, but the overlap can definitely be improved upon. A few degrees advanced or retard here and there (way more specefic than just the spaces between gear teeth) can make a difference.

Basically it seems you're not taking full advantage of the swap because 4 teeth doesnt let the valves open and close at the optimum time. -2.5 degrees from the original pin location is what people have found to be the best angle. Might as well get the most out of it, and since its just a template to print off from JWT and a hole to drill, Im drilling mine.

gotcha. maybe i'll get to it one day, but at the time i was more concerned with not needed to rebuild my head/replacing it. also, my car is strictly on dd status, so milking the cam swap for all it's worth is not a high priority for me.

yes i did this on my friends before we got his timing corrected. when we got his timing corrected we put the gear on the stock position. its very easy to drill the gear. cant say weather it works or not though. let us know what you find out.
