well i would see why you are swapping to a de.

i would also. just the fact the SOHC doesnt look as good. just clean up that DOHC and itll look good.

good luck. and more pics!!!!!!!!!

Well, I enjoy the DOHC a bit more, but the main fact is that the DE is a better overall engine and has many more parts for it. The SOHC just doesn't suit me right and I got the DE for a steal! (225$ for the complete engine and 5spd transmission!) So I couldn't pass it up. :D

And I'll post some pictures here in a second.

So I went to paint my engine and I realized I didn't want it orange..I wanted it red. haha So I took most the paint off and I decided to detail clean the head and other misc. parts.

Now, I have a question. How do I go about polishing my intake manifold? Or should I just clean it up and paint it? I'm not sure what to do. :P But I want it to look good.

Now onto the pictures. Heres where my KA sits.

Yeah...when I painted it I only did the first side. haha

here is my turbo parts. I got my Sr20 T25 in today, and it actually fits, but my actuator still doesn't fit. -_-; wow.

The bolts don't line up with the turbo...wtf? Its suppose to be a T25/T28 actuator but doesn't fit. any help?

Just admit it...its clean as hell. :D

I changed my mind again, too gray. haha

But I'm also sending my valve cover out to get powder coated so that'll look nice. :D

I'm doing a lot of prep work over christmas time sense i'm short on money.

So this is all i have right now. I'll do the intake side next! Maybe tomorrow night? maybe.. :D

okay, so I got an engine stand today, so that'll help me out quit a bit with this rebuild. so I'll eventually here move it from the tire to the stand. :D

And I'm currently painting the intake manifold. So far so good with this build, I ordered my gaskets and they'll be here tomorrow. Then i will either pay someone to powder coat my valve cover or i'll do it myself, haven't decided yet. Then just a few more parts and it'll be going into the engine bay. :D

nice work man

i cant believe people are talking sh*t about your build in your own thread come on guys

you are putting a lot of time into a 240 that you saved from the scrapyard, and you are turbocharging your DE. awesome

every build has a different level of work and parts, and money doesent grow on trees. you are doing a great job with your build. keep up the good work!

LOL, anyone who knows me on here should know that im not a big fan of the SR. its got its pros and whatever, but its kind of an easy way out of the lacking-power situation. plus, the sr wont touch the torque the ka can put out.

i was saying a STOCK kade swap. no rebuild, no internal upgrades, etc. just stock, bare bone swap and drop a turbo on it.

ive got a kade. and im actually building it, not just putting a little turbo on it with a megan or whatever manifold.

dont get me wrong, youve got props in my book for sticking KA and going boost, but a stock motor with however many miles on it, with some base-grade turbo stuff taken directly from an SR just doesnt cut it as a "build"

just my two cents. dont take it as flaming, i was just stating my opinion.
I think it cuts it as a build and i dont konw you on here but you deserve a slap because of this post . theres my 2 cents

cool BUILD btw

The condition is good, I'm not tearing the head off till the gasket blows, because I just want it in and running so that's my decision. It will blow and I know that, but I want to get it finished first.

But everything else checks out great, I forget the compression but it all checked out great. overall great engine.

Its finally up on a stand! :D

Its not a garage, its my basement. I"m building the engine from my basement.

But I have a toolbox, engine stand and all my stuff down there, but its a dirt basement, so it sucks mad *** to work in. but I gotta do what i gotta do. haha

Heres the bottom intake manifold. I did the bottom before the top? The top will be done Thursday.

Well not much of the updates coming, Christmas has slowed many builds for this month. hah

Well, I just ordered my full engine gasket set from advance for 150 dollar it'll be here in 7 days. Not too bad. when it comes in i'll set a whole day aside to rebuilding that engine with all the new gaskets. It'll be fun.

I also almost completely put the lower plenum back together from painting it and its not looking to bad. the lines are all rusted so i'm trying to sand them all down and stuff then paint them and it'll be done. Now I ordered my KA MAF and I'm ordering my JGS T25/T28 oil line kit.

Now I have a few questions for all the KA-Ters out there.

What spark plugs/wires should I go with?

What Should I do for the air intake part for the turbo? What piping should I get for it and etc..I don't really know what to get. I have the stock SR elbow on it right now.

Heres where the engine sits before I tear it completely apart.

Tell me whatcha think.

I need to clear coat the valve cover still and sand down the letters. but so far so good.

Good Luck on the build, looking good! I've been there, and have heard everything from everyone, but it turned out just the way I wanted it to. The best advice anyone ever gave me when I was learning to drift, was to run my stock KA (DOHC) to learn technique and not rely upon power . . . so that's what I did, until I blew it up. Then I did the SR20DET swap, and added power little by little. Helped me a lot as a driver. I must say though, KA Turbo is still the best!!!

Happy Holidays!

yeahup. Budget. :D

But I'm doing it right, I'm getting GOOD parts used most of the time, instead of getting retarded parts new. That's how i see it. But the ka is turning out nice.

I wanna do it right, but on a budget. I don't wanna go out and buy an ebay build and do it that way. Its retarded. So if anyone has a problem with my build, yeah its not the best, but its gonna be done right. I hope. :[

meh, semantics...you are doing something to your car to make it better. But maybe a better word for it would be upgrades?

I dunno, looks like things are coming along and as long as you stick to good parts and enjoy yourself who cares what others think.

Keep the updates coming and have fun with your car!

Yeah, as long as you have fun and you do what you want to your car then who cares what others think? I love my 240sx to death and i'm doing it how I want too.

as soon as advance gets here with my full engine gasket set I'll tear the engine apart and put it back together? haha yeah. Can't wait. monday I'm ordering my oil lines then going to send my oil pan out to get welded then I'm almost done with the engine. Just injectors and clutch. Plus fluids. And the engine will get dropped in. But its easier said then done. haha

What type of clutch do you think i should run with this? I don't wanna go too crazy but I don't want something that can't hold the abuse i'll be delivering. hah

Thanks guys! I love my 240sx and I'm having a blast!

But I'm moving next week! My engine and stuff will be out of my dirt basement very soon. But I have everything torn down to the block, nothing but pistons rods and crank!

I will be rebuilding it and putting it back together this tuesday because I do not want to move this engine next weekend in parts. I just don't feel good doing that. So I'll put it back together into its long block and then move it! Its going along great and I got my JGS oil line kit in. My dad also got me a oil preasure gauge...because I broke the oil sensor where the turbo line goes. haha ugh

But oh well. I'm getting it done!

I'll post pictures eventually from the tear down...

info about my block now..

Its in amazing shape!

no lip on the cylinder walls, which means its in good condition..

Yeah oil pan came off. and everything is great. The pistons had carbon built on them but thats because it sat for a good wile. But It'll all be cleaned off before it goes together. I don't have money right now to rebuild the bottom end.

I do plan on maybe by the end of the year find a short block of a ka24de and rebuild it, then just swap it all over. But thats a later time. Right now i don't plan on putting anything even past 300whp. So no need for that waste. :[

I'll instead put all my money into a really great tune..
