Its ok to ask for suggestions on parts and what not, but you would do yourself better to first drive the car and get a feel for it before getting any parts. I know future planning doesn't hurt but I guarantee you if you first get a feel for your car you'll have a better time choosing parts for it...and also more help from us lol.

hes rightjust get it, drive it and love ittake it one thing at a time since your in school and have no moneyand when you get new parts you will always be excited then you drive with the new parts and fall in love with your car all over again

hahaha, man, when I got my 240 at age 15, I had the SAME thoughts as you did. Ahhh yes, those were the days. I was going to do this and that and have it all souped up before I drive it and I was going to be able to pay for it all and what not. What really happened? I'm 18 (JESUS CHRIST I FEEL OLD.) now and I JUST got the car running two months ago. Still no tags.

When it comes down to it, getting the car back to 0%, or near showroom condition, matters THE MOST. After you do that, you don't have to worry about your car breaking down and falling apart. THEN, you can do this and that and make it nice. And another thing is that money is a HUGE factor. It seems like you can get the money and do it. But when you get $1000 bucks for those coilovers, youre (hopefully) going to think about college, which is really not that far down the line. On top of that there are social things that you're going to want to do, other wants besides the car et cetera, that stuff costs money too .

My advice to you, talk to AZ89 alot, and hang out here alot. This forum is what got me back into reality and this forum is where I learned everything I know about my 240. Get the car running like it should, clean it up, make it comfy (chicks don't generally appreciate track-sluts) and THEN do what you gotta do. Good luck man, hope you stick around!

Not as easy as it was before according to my parents. College Degree now = High school degree then.

not necessarily, it doesn't guarantee success and a good job. i have a friend that graduated with a history major and is now a proud cashier at a local wendy's making 9 bucks an hour. when i graduated hs i was already workin at lowe's making 11.84 then with the extra time decided to take up a part time delivery gig for a friends restaurant. not bashing college just saying its not for everyone.

dude all were sayin is get the feel of the car first then you make advancements, once you can control your car. then you add more , many people drift bone stock 40's with just coilovers. you dont need all of that right away and no need to rush your only 15 drifting is gonna be here for a while. just keep up the maintanance and keep your mulah in your pocket. learn the art of drift first, and listen 2 AZ89 those 7600 post equals experience on the forum. he's like one of those really old guys that knows almost everything lol (just kiddin AZ89). but for real just enjoy it for what it is right now and what it could be in the future. o yea go to college its tons of fun and can help you in the long run. and if you dont have a job or 2 you betta start like right now because projects are no way shape or form cheap

tis true.. but.. im in highschool.. my first car was a 240, with a stage 5 clutch.. and i learned to drive/ drive 5 speed.. on that car.. i consider that an accomplishment in itself, and i consider myself one of the better drivers in my school. 99/100ths of my school cant even drive manny, let alone a stage 5..

so i think i have the right to claim that i know how to drive

but seriously.. i was all stoked, ready to get s*** done with my car.. then it set in, i cant afford s***..

takes patience and lots of saving.. but its a learning experience, good luck, and welcome

Here is some advice from an adult who did basically what you're looking to do:You may or you may not like or give a damn about 240s or drifting in the next 5 to 10 years. But right now, you have an excellent opportunity to learn. And in my opinion, learning how to drive and work on a car is pretty important. For me it's a reliever of stress, albeit occasionally stressful in and of itself. But fun when you either achieve your goal, or are just plain old straight up having a blast driving. Who cares what any of these 18 to 30 year old guys have to say. You have the rest of your life to make up for mistakes and lost time spend doing something that you knew you appreciated at age 16, 17, 18, 19, 20..whenever. Sure, maybe you'll miss a window to do something people normally may pursue by a certain age, but really..what's the difference in an 18yo doing something or a 23yo doing something.

I regret not having the true wherewithall under my belt when it came to cars when I was younger. I had no one to support and foster my learning. No resources, and a father who couldn't have helped me out to save his life.

If I were you, I'd pick up a 240 with KA. Learn how it drives, corners, etc. Save up a few months for some decent coil overs, do routine maintenance, keep it clean (and yes I mean the interior) and you'll feel great about your car. It will be a point of pride. Then save a short hundred or find a free KA, get a rebuild kit. Pick up an FSM, and find a write up on how to rebuild one. Get your head to a shop and get it machined ...and if you want to make some cheap and fun/nasty power boost your freshly built KA. And then you'll have:1) Some great driving experience2) An excellent grasp for your car mechanically3) A car you can be proud about4) The know how to help yourself out with swaps5) and a great accomplishment

There is not much to regret about that. You could work like 15 hours a week on top of school at around making $7.50 an hour and that will net you around $100 a week. Throw half into savings and half into gas, and whatever else and you got yourself near $200 saved a month. and in one school year you can have a set of coilovers, do a years worth of oil changes and routine maintenance, and money to get another motor and rebuild (not that you have to do that, just a suggestion).

And when you get a good handle on just driving, find a track locally that does drift days and have fun learning a new way to drive your car. KA can do it! Check it out!:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPlW5BBqgDE

^^ Single cam, even.

All I'm saying is that you're young, and it's a lot easier to live your life if you're going to follow your heart. Even if you don't understand there is a possibility that you'll give this up sooner or later and never look back. Do what makes you happy. Don't listen to anyone on here if you don't like what they have to say about how to take direction in your life. But do listen to what they have to say if you need help with your car. This is as good a resource as you can get with the S chassis.

Good luck with finding a great car, good luck with maintaining it, I hope you learn a lot, and I hope you check in. Drive safe.

i'm 23 now, here's my timeline since i was 15.

15- i got a job at a restaurant (much better money than 7.50 an hr) i saved 50% of everything i madealso began thinking of what car i might want in the future.bought a cheap beater in the mean time, oldschool sentra. great on gas, reliable, an extremely cheap to maintain. very affordable

18- i got a new job at a bar, my income tripled, great moneythis was also the year i bought my 240. it was a mint vert with 1 owner, garage kept, older guy with 66k on the motor/chassisi continued to just save money as i drove the car and started to learn about it, started to read up and work on it.

20- i went back to school for my associates so my i was no longer able to put money aside for my car, but in the 2 years i spent reading up and working on my car, i learned a lot and saved some money. not a lot of money as i learned the hard way how much money life costs once you're out of high school, that's why i went back to college.

21- i became head waiter at a nice restaurant, my income then doubled again and i was now halfway done with my associates.

22-finished my associates, out of college, now started saving a lot of money. (well i did party a LOT for a while, but working at bar = cheap cheap alcohol)

and this brings us to present day.(just as an addon, i've always had sidejobs as well for a few months here and there, or one time deals like flippin a car real quick if i find one for a good price and know i can flip it within a month. any good investment, make. it's the key to success)

now what i did is i got a good feel for the car day to day since i bought it, and i only spent money on parts as they NEEDED to be replaced throughout the years. i.e. my exhaust rotted off by the cat so i replaced it with a locally fabbed mandrel bent 2.5" straightpipe, 18" resonator, and a ebay muffler for $260. my air filter was dirty so i got an air cone, ebay $10. my struts/shocks were pretty shot so i replaced em with kyb agx and i dropped it with tein s techs just cuz i figured if im doin the struts/shocks i might as well do the springs now, that was $700. my rotors and pads were shot so i got brembo slotted/drilled, hawk pads, and SS lines all around for $400. well you get the idea. but what i did was as a part needed replacement, i researched on here and other places everything i could about that part of the car and what parts are available, etc.

now that i do make more money and have no more school to pay for ive been buying stuff that i WANTED and didnt just NEED. i bought some wheels, did a 5 speed swap, threw in an underdrive crank pulley, got a msd sci-l ignition w/ two step and a blaster pack for cheap from a friend so i took it, etc. its still got a good gap of time between each purchase though. you do have the right idea of focusing on suspension first though. that's all im focusing on now. dont weld your dif though, that's stupid. get a good vlsd, you can find one from a j30, 300zx, etc for cheap. or even oem s13 ones or something.

but yeah, buying stuff over time as i needed replacement parts anyway i felt was the best way to go. that way i dont replace perfectly good working parts since im workin on a budget, and i didnt have to settle on cheap replacement parts when i needed em because i spent all my cash on stuff i didnt NEED to buy yet. get what im saying?it worked out too because as i changed the car in slight ways, i was able to get a new feel for the car. everytime the car started to get too, i dont wanna say boring, but like too routine i would modify it again a little and i can track its progress while sometimes feeling like i have a whole new and improved car. especially after the 5 speed swap lol. it's also a much better way to do it i feel because if you learn your car inside and out stock, then everytime you mod it, if something goes wrong you can pinpoint exactly what it is.

ok, well sorry if im rambling a lil, i just got home from the bar a lil while ago, kinda drunk still. hope this helps though

oh, did i mention...expect to spend A LOT of money on gas, insurance, and routine maintenance. it kept me broke a lot. i saved some money by not doing pointless repairs unless i HAD to. my front speakers have been blown for like 3 years lol

I run Megans and for the price their excellent. MUCH better than running any sort of lowering springs.

Your still young, reality is once you get your car you will realize that the cost of maintaining it and ordering name brand parts actually hurts the wallet more than you think.

So your friend has a supercharger 240sx? Got any pics?
