U know the loud whrirring sound. Anyway the fan puts tremedous load on the engine. So after I noticed I was only getting 180 miles per tank , I noticed the fan noise. Upon inspection with the engine off the fan was immovable , no free spin at all. That is a broken fan clutch. Free spin is good , as long as your KA is not overheating. That weird noise might be your timing chain tensioners (rolling rocks in a bucket). So I went to the junk yard , found one with very smooth free spin ( when the engine gets hot the fan clucth "locks up" hence the clutch part , so if it locks up when it is cold , its broken) for $25 bucks. Pls bear in mind that thing is a beehive to get on and off so don't mis- DG. Good luck.
are you sure? i thought it must be a one way clutch since it is connected to the water pump? it freewills back and forth so... damn i dunno what to think now...
