Hi just out of curiosity, I was reading this link from nico club about different differental gear ratios. here is the link.
the-ultimate-final-drive-gear-ratio-thread-t228683.html

How should I understand the gear ratios? I have a s13 vlsd in my 240sx. out of all of the nissan differentials, which gives higher topspeed and less acceleration? I have KA24DERT in my car and acceleration is crazy in my ka. however I reach top speed really fast. Let me know what you think. thanks.

I wish I could help you out, but I can't
However- when I have gear ratio questions, I give a shout to papasmurf.

Add a link to this thread and papasmurf will be able to help you out and be able to go way more in depth than I ever could.

Also- what does the DERT stand for?

The "lower" the ratio the higher the speed. The longer its takes to reach it. Imagine it like this. Take a motor cycle and put a rear sprocket on it the size of a beer can. Now replace that same sprocket with one the size of the actual wheel. The wheel will spin the same number of rotations but the engine will have to rotate alot quicker for the bigger gear to keep the same speed. The less the motor turns to keep the same speed the more usable rpms you have to increase that speed in each gear. The reason you lose acceleration is like a mountain bike. In thw first gear its really easy to turn but you can only get your legs to turn so fast. Now the next gear is harder to turn slightly but you dont have to pedal as fast. 1st gear being bigger sprocket then second.

I hope that makes sense
