That's good to know. I only brought it to your attention because at the tech inspection at US Drift, he said I should have a diagonal brace goin above my head. He let me drift anyway. And the NASA rulebook says it should be that way for full cages, but they aren't that specific for general roll bars. Just making sure bro. Welcome to the vert roll bar club.
Small world, I think it was me that mentioned the diagonal bar to you at the VIR event (actually a few other vert owners approached me as well that weekend discussing roll bars). NASA has it designed that way because they want to protect the driver in the event of a rollover (I never really paid attention to any other rulebooks specs on the diagonal, until now and you are correct it doesn't specify, but the images I saw show it over the driver's head). But if you imagine the car flipping and the initial impact took place on drivers side corner of it without that brace, it may be weaker than if it had it there. Not saying it still wouldnt help you, but from an engineering standpoint, I don't see how it could be better.

First kit has been made. We are currently going through some test-fit stages (any 240 convertibles in so cal want to volunteer test-fitting time for extra discount on the roll bar? - nothing will be physically modified on your car unless you want the roll bar installed.

A couple glamor shots for everyone from this weekend's past auto-x .

Still running stock suspension - still learning where I messed up when I was spoiled by coilovers, full arms/rods, bars, etc .

Still one the slower end of the spectrum compared to all these great drivers @ autox, but I'm learning a lot.

I should have the coilovers on by March for road racing & autox, we'll see how I do there.

The rx-7 oil cooler seems to be holding up great (write-up/details will be up later).

Federals (in rear) feel nice & the roll bar is holding up very well. Rear is much more planted, gotta start installing my front bracing pieces.

If you check out the first pic in full res, you can see what I believe is chassis flex from the vert up front, haha.

Some of my fav pics of myself, hee hee:

That first pic is crazy; you can see most of the bottom of the driver's side of the car.

Do you need to run a silencer in autocross?

You can run w/o silencer as long as you are below the 95db limit (pretty sure I was), just too lazy to remove it considering I'm not competing for tenths of a second against anyone - I'm so far behind, haha.

I wish I had seen this thread sooner! I hope that the kit is still avail? In the process of building my vert as we speak, and this would be a great addition to the list of mods!

We actually have the first revision of our s13 vert roll bar kit ready - has been ready for a few weeks now. We just haven't had time to add it to our site (finally took pics a few days ago, expect an update & introductory special soon).

We are still finalizing the prices. However, for Nico members, special or not, you will be looking @ no more than 600; for our introductory first batch, you are looking at significantly lower than that shipped!

If there are any verts interested in receiving a smokin' deal on the first kit, please email me @ specials (AT) frsport.com for details. All you have to do is take pictures of your install (very simple - 8 welds total), and you get even lower pricing .

No, this kit is made specifically for the convertible and will not fit the coupe nicely at all.

However, we can make special order kits for coupes/fastbacks/and possibly s14 at normal pricing when available.

Will you be able to ship it to Canada (Ontario) -- probably cost a mint?I guess another option may be to ship it to somewhere in Buffalo and have it installed there?

I've been interested in finding a rollbar (just for everyday driving) for my stock '93 ever since I bought it 5 yrs ago!

It's your browser cache. Refresh the cache (Think you can do Ctrl+Shift+R or clear the cache/offline files in your Internet settings).

We did some upgrades this past week to the site, and a lot of browsers kept the old settings, etc. But works on my side .

Project has been done, and a few have sold already. and you can actually purchase the roll bar kit off the web site (roll bar has actually been updated slightly from the pictures on the site - TIG welded instead of MIG, and better machined base plates).

DavisFab S13 Convertible Roll Bar Kit

They are currently made to order, but you can call FRSport and ask if they are still doing forum special discount for the kit.

They are priced at 499.95 on the web site - was there another forum price?

Bringing thread back from the dead, cause i just got mine installed.

Question though, why did you end up changing the rear mount location?

I kinda liked the "look" better of the opening post.

Some feedback from version 1 bars:

- how hard it was to weld and amount of cutting involved.- clearance for putting things like tires in the back.

I haven't actually seen the new version installed, but I only heard they updated the design.

I noticed in your picture the passenger side bar looks oddly low... is the driver side like that as well?

Yeah both sides are even, and are about 6inches down the sides (still within regulation) I'm just wondering though if it still meets the 30degree regulation.

Also, I'm supposed to drill a hole in it so tech inspection can determine thickness... where's the best place to drill? wouldn't it also be a source for potential rust on the inside? probably would need to keep it plugged somehow?

I bought some of the good padding at 16 bucks per 3ft. any tips for cutting and applying, where it needs to be applied?

most ppl who drill it, just do it on the main hoope somewhere between the harness bar & bottom mounting plate.

I never drilled mine - just made sure every time I first run w/ a group I ask if they are going to measure my roll bar thickness. So far, no one does.

I like where it mounts better in the first set of pics then where it does in his. It looks better between the strut tower bracing. Where does yours mount qv?
