Okay, I tried searching and came up with some answers but now I'm stuck. I have a 1991 240sx that I got for cheap that is bone stock. The car has 145k and was in running condition back in November. The car sat in a tow yard until a few weeks ago but it has some issues.

The clutch pedal goes all the way to the floor and although the car will start, I'm unable to get it into gear. I checked for leaks in the clutch lines and found none, replaced the master and slave cylinders and checked the clutch pedal. I bled the lines and found that isn't the problem. It seems the withdrawal lever is not putting pressure on the slave cylinder to keep the pedal up.

Now I realize that it will involve dropping the transmission, but what would cause the lever to suddenly stop pressing on the cylinder? I looked through the FSM but was wondering if anyone experienced a similar problem. Thanks.

There's no need to remove the transmission. The reason your clutch pedal is not coming back up can be due to the following:- air in the system- leaking slave or master cylinder- bad master cylinder

Here's how to bleed the system:Bleed only one unit at a time; do the clutch slave cylinder first then dothe piping connector. Get someone to operate the clutch pedal while you dothe bleeding.

1 - Have someone pump the pedal several times then hold the pedal down.2 - With the pedal depressed, open the bleeder valve to release air.3 - Close bleeder valve; now the other person can release the pedal.

Getting all the air out of the piping connector can be a bear. You may have to do it many times.

get rid of the clutch damper and it will make bleeding your clutch 100x easier. the reason your clutch is on the ground and you cant get it into gear is because you have air in the lines from the damper box. remove it and your troubles will go with it.

I bled the lines several times, with the help of my dad, one at a time. Both cylinders were replaced with new parts once we bled the lines for several minutes, with only fluid coming out of the bleeder valves. I'll try again and also try to get my 96 up in the air to make sure the lever is how I expect it to be.
