NO MORE LIKE IN THE RANGE OF 700HP+ STRESS BARS WILL CRACK WITH ENOUGH STRESS.

If an S13 chassis with a cage and stress bars will crack with only 700 h.p.:

1) Nissan needs to go back to chassis design school

and

2) I'd like to see where you're getting your figures from. What 700 h.p. S13 had this happen? Or are you just pulling #s out of thin air like I think you are?

NO I'M NOT, AND TO PUT A CAR ON A TRACK WITH 700HP THAT WILL THEORETICALLY GET YOU INTO THE 9'S THE TRACKS WILL ENFORCE THAT YOU NEED CHASSIS STIFFENING ELEMENTS, SO HE WOULD NEED IT ANYWAY. OHH AND BY THE WAY I HAVE OWNED AND RACED MUSTANGS AND CAMAROS THAT WHEN WE WERE PUTTING THAT KIND OF POWER DOWN THE CHASSIS WOULD LIFT AND TWIST, SO I AM SPEAKING FROM MY EXPERIENCES. A 240SX MAY STAND UP TO THAT KIND OF FORCE FLAT BUT WHEN I GET MY DIGITAL CAMERA I'LL POST YOU A PIC OF MY CHASSIS FLEX FROM SLIDING. THE DRIVER-SIDE CAVED AND THE PASSENGER SIDE BENT.

You were stating that the car would need to be tube-framed earlier for high-power applications. Which if you're talking 700 h.p. is far from true. That's the point. With a cage and stress bars front and rear, the car would be fine at these power levels.

Your claims about your mustangs and camaros are completely off-base as well. Both cars are frame/body, whereas the 240s are unibody. Compare apples to apples, not apples to lettuce.

I don't know too many people who would take a 700+ h.p. car anywhere but a dragstrip, so I don't think he's going to be "sliding it".

I've seen plenty of non-tube-framed 700+ h.p. camaros and Mustangs that have seen plenty of track use (dragstrip) without twisting the frame.

LIKE I SAID I AM SPEAKING FROM MY EXPERIENCES, AND I WAS SAYING THAT IF A FORD OR A CHEVY'S FRAME CAN TWIST THAN IM QUITE CERTAIN A UNIBODY WOULD TWIST BEFORE A FRAME BASED VEHICLE. YES I KNOW WHAT PLATFORMS THESE CARS SIT ON, AND I KNOW THAT FOR EVERY VEHICLE ITS DIFFERENT. AS FOR A 700HP CAR TRACK BOUND, I HAVE DRIVEN HIGH HP CARS ON COURSES AND STREETS. YOU CAN MAKE A CAR OF ANY POWER DO WHAT YOU WANT IT TOO.... IT IS ALL IN THE DESIGN PROCESS.

I'M NOT TRYING TO GET INTO AN ARGUEMENT WITH YOU, I AM JUST TRYING TO GIVE MY 2 CENTS FOR WHAT ITS WORTH. I'M NOT SAYING I'M RIGHT AND I'M NOT SAYING I'M WRONG, I'M JUST SPEAKING FROM MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCES. THAT IS ALL.

Ok lets say i built my car to 700hp, the power curve would be so different than from a big block V8....i wouldn't be making 700hp off the line, probaly not until 6-7000rpms....don't you think a mustang making over 700 ft/lbs of torque at say 3500rpms is gonna put more stress on a frame than a 240 making that much torque at say 7000rpms....just something to ponder...

MY ONE MUSTANGE HIT ITS MAX POINT AT 4.5K RPM AND IT WAS LIFTING OFF THE LINE BECAUSE OF THE LOCKER. YEAH ESSENTIALLY IT WOULD BUT THE TRACK DETERMINES WHAT KIND OF PRECAUTIONS THEY WANT YOU TAKE. I KNOW MY FRIENDS 400HP HONDA NEED A TUBE-FRAME TO RUN AT FIREBIRD RACEWAY HERE IN PHOENIX. I WAS JUST SAYING WHAT WOULD BE THE SAFEST WAY GOING ABOUT STIFFENING YOUR FRAME.

Dude, you are on complete crack.

Tracks are sanctioned by either the NHRA or the IHRA which sets the rules that they follow.

I know of at least two cars that run at Firebird (one being a Honda other being a Mirage) that put down 400+. "Being required to run a tube-frame" is complete BS.

YEAH WHAT HONDA HAS OVER 400HP AT FIREBIRD, WHO DRIVES IT. I'VE BEEN THERE NUMEROUS TIMES AND I'VE ONLY SEEN TWO. MY FRIENDS AND ANOTHER GUYS. AND YES THERE ARE CERTAIN RULES YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW REGARDING WEIGHT, THE HONDA IN QUESTION WAS A GUTTED DOWN TO THE FLOOR BOARDS. ITS RAN A 10.5 ON THE RUN I WITNESSED. HE COULDN'T RUN AFTER THAT BECAUSE THE TECH INSPECTOR DIDN'T LIKE HIS CHASSIS. HE HAS RECENTLY TUBED AND IS GOING TO GO BACK OUT. AND WHERE IN ARIZONA ARE YOU? HAVE YOU BEEN TO FIREBIRD? ITS NHRA GOVERNED.

Yes, it is *NHRA* governed. Now, with that in mind, show me *ANYWHERE* in NHRA rules that a car would *need* to be tube-framed.

There are 8-second Imports that aren't tube-framed, and you're telling me that an old-hat 10.5 Honda is going to be the 1st to be made to go tube-frame?

I am not *in* AZ, however, I have family and friends who live out there, and frequent Phoenix (just got back from there Sunday night in fact). My one friend runs out there quite often and his father-in-law is a veteran bike racer at firebird. This doesn't matter though, as whether it's at Firebird, Pomona, Englishtown, Norwalk, etc., there is no rule in NHRA stating someone like that needs to tube-frame their chassis.

A good friend of mine is building a 8 sec hatch and for the class he wants to run in he cant have a tube frame. He is going to be running in the hotrod class. I have also met a couple of people that have ran 10's with only a 6pt, granted they were kicked off the track, but they only need a beefier cage, not tube frame.

IT PROBABLY WASEN'T REQUIRED OF HIM IN THAT WAY BUT THAT WAS HIS QUICKEST AND CHEAPEST FIX TO HIS PROBLEM. HIS CAR RAN A 9.9 RECENTLY (I JUST TALKED TO HIM LAST NIGHT). YEAH OK I'LL ADMIT I WAS WRONG. BUT THEY DID KICK HIM OFF THE TRACK FOR CHASSIS ISSUES AND HE FIXED IT BY GOING TUBE FRAMED. TUBING IS STILL THE STRONGEST FRAME METHOD.
