Hey, first post here, damn nice forum you've got going as far as I can see so far..

I have $15,000 American to spend on my first car, and I want it to be a Nissan, 240sx seems to be the most widely used, so seeing as it'd have best mod selection, etc, I think I'll try one out :)

Is a 240sx a wise choice to buy? How's it for reliability? Also.. I see so many conversions and stuff to Nissan, what are available for the 240 sx? any links to pictures?

Thanks alot :D

Wow. I'd go for a CA8 or RB powered S13,but thats just me. Put in an RB26DETT and you'll be the KING of the 240s:ylsuper

S13=awsome first car. S13=awsome car,period. lol.

1) Yes. I bought it as my first car and it's great2) Excellent. Engine seems to always last more than 200k miles with only the usual preventative maintenance.3) Depending on model, conversion to the Japanese-equivalent 'Silvia' model is popular. This includes body work and engine. For engine work the most popular options are CA18, SR20, RB20/25/26 or KAT (turbo the stock motor). Each of these motors has a forum dedicated to them and you can look through those as you like (links on sidebar to your left).

Good luck.

You can build a very nice 240 with $15,000. I have a bit less (parts and labor) into mine. If you are mechanically inclined, $15,000 will go a LONG way. If you have to pay someone else to do the work, maybe not so much.

Check out the KA turbo forum. Going with a turbo KA will be the best bang for the buck.

If you're into modifying the car to make it as fast as possible, I'd get an S13. You should take care of suspension and brakes first.

S13 comes in coupe and hatch with flip lights (1989-1994). S14 have 2 different front end selections, Zenki and Kouki (1995-1998). Its awesome you have $15000 to spend on your car but my i suggest that you buy the 240 and keep it stock until you feel comfortable driving it (i'm guessing this is your first car ever right?). Once you feel that you are comfortable driving a rear wheel drive car go and drop in your modifications.

I say buy a good condition s13 for 3k and do the work on it gradually. It doesn't matter if you're not mechanically inclined, because you'll learn more and more as you go along. Plus, I doubt your parents would buy you a $15k 240 with 300+ hp as a first car..

So I suppose you're into the s14s...

However, with 15k, you could get an s13/14 with a silvia s15 conversion.. which looks even hotter IMO.

s15 conversion - this is underground-motorsports' project car:

What do you think? You could probably get a car with this conversion for 15k plus other goodies ;)

Chris at underground has some good prices on Silvia conversion kits, before you get discouraged about not being able to do the work yourself try and get a price range (including labor) for what you would like to do.

Bodykits are a waste IMHO but i love my S14 the 3rd pic you put up was a stock 95 or 96 with 97-98 sideskrits and panited stock rims. I think the 95s look great with the 97 SS. But yea 15k you can learn how to work on a car and still laydown a 13s pass in your new 240 with mods
