Why can't you work on a car? Go buy some tools(use a little of that 15k) and mess around. Where do you live? You could get some people that are a little more experienced to help you. When something breaks down, you'll want to know how to fix it. Plus, knowing a lot about your car is much more impressive than having a hot looking, or a fast one... unless you're showing it off to chicks.

I second this.

If you are not very wise when it comes to vehicles, having a modified vehicle as a daily driver isnt the best of all choices. I'd say plop down 2-3k on a beater to drive around first. Then go looking for your project car.

you know how to drive but if your car breaks down in the middle of the road, can you tell whats wrong with it before calling a tow truck? then spending a bunch of money taking it to a shop when instead you can take it home and fix it in your own garage.

its up to you. you have 15k, if something breaks, you have money to fix it.

There really needs to be a band wagon smiley. Christ, if I had 15k for a FIRST car it would have been an E36 3-series. But I guess that wouldn't be what everyone else was doing..:rolleyes
