What's poppin, i'm new to this forum , and i bought my q45 in January so i had the winter tires. Now Summer time is coming and BUYING rims is a necessity as i'm buying winter tires. Over the past couple months i've been doing my research to find out what size of rims i should put on my Q. And the outcome is 20's or 22's but i need to get feedback from people who already have those alterations or know of this mod. Tha guy at tha rim shop in Niagara told me that the biggest i could get would be 22x8.5 and it would require low pro tires. So what do y'all think 22's or 20's ???????

20's (I got tha same color Q as the first one )

22's (The rims look like they go with the car more)

SPEAK ON IT

Depends if you want to enjoy your car's performance or convert it to a donkey skate.

Lots of threads on wheels, and more importantly, tires. Read on.

You've found a great place to learn about your car.

Too big imho. Stay with 19's. Anything bigger and it looks too ghetto (unless you are going gangster). The donk look is not cool. But in the end its your money.

The performance of the car got me too many speeding tickets that's why i feel like putting something that will concentrate more on the look and a lot more less on tha performance

19's would look really funny on the car and almost pathetic, what's even scarier is that the price difference between the 19's and 20's ain't that big

The wheels are large enough that they raise the height of the car, killing the long and low goodness of the Y33 body. Its cartoonish.

I think 20" is about the maximum for a clean, classy look. Apparently you're going for attention, so enjoy the ride and the stares.

I agree with Jesda, but if you want the attention hell try to get some 26s and get a automatic step ladder to help you climb inside

They do fill out the wheel well nicely, but they'd only look right with the car lowered to get rid of that horrible wheel gap.

They're too big for my taste with or without wheel gap, though. I'm not a fan of huge slabs of metal with tiny rubber bands wrapped around them. Low profile tires look great. No-profile tires don't.

I'm not into the aftermarket wheels that look like they belong to something else and don't work with the lines of the car.

I prefer wheels more like these, but not exclusively to:

Indeed he might but it wouldn't look bad if those cars were actually lowered to match, if that is even possible with the Q's wheel well and 22s.

I can't believe no one is discussing damage the the vehicle.

Driving on those 22's will decimate your suspension within 20k miles, not to mention deforming the body itself where the strut seats are bolted, once the suspension is wasted and taking no more shock.

I have a prelude in the driveway that I dropped WAAY to much with large wheels and I can take pics and shop you what happened. Within 15k miles my upper control arms actually banged THROUGH the body and dented the hood from UNDERNEATH....

I drove lowered 3" for 12k miles, dropped it another inch to 4" for another 3k, and then it was TOASTED. Hasn't moved from it's spot for the last 4 years (Still looks great though!).

Remember, every mod that you do will have equal and opposite effects on related parts. If you don't take this into account, things WILL snap, crackle, and pop.

Another issue is the type of wheel you use. Like Lino said, they ought to complement the lines of the car. Choosing large chrome slabs for the sake of reflecting maximum light hurts the elegance and grace of the original design. You'll get more looks, but only at your wheels, not your car.

^I like these.

I say getem as big, heavy n shiny as possible to do the quickest damage possible and get those ghettomobiles off the road! I am so sick of seeing nicer old lux cars pimped out-those big tire/wheel older cars just scream"yeah,I just bought a clapped out old car for a few thousand"

go with 20z. 22z look a lil too big & 19z are a lil too small IMO, especially if you're not trippin on the ultra-performance issue. i have had 20z since a week after purchasing my '98 and havn't had any suspension probs outside of needing tension rods (which were goin bad upon purchase). no scrapes/no rubs, handles GREAT. i typically do 90ish on hwy & love the feel. slight lowering (@ 1") should kill fender gap w/o having to look like a lowrider & further improve handling (i haven't dropped it yet, coming soon). 20z also have greater variety of wheel/tire options than 19z & are cheaper than 22z. why not get best of both worlds, looks & performance??? 20z are not quite VIP or EXE look, but hey, we can't all be clones here's mine...

20" and above wheels without at least a 2" drop will get the attention way more than a speeding car doing 120 MPH. I don't think the attention you'd get for having the large wheels without a drop is a positive one. I think people would look at your car because they wonder: "what is he doing to his poor car?"...My 2 cents.

Holy christ that looks like a 4x4. That doesn't look good imo but its your car. The difference gets when you want to go regular fitment or staggered. With staggered you are limited to the wheel choice usually.

As for the statement that performance gets you in trouble; well I have a 500hp rx7 and haven't got any tickets in the past 4 years. Its all in how you behave on the roads.

A member has the split-5 M45/Q45 19x8.5 wheels with spacers on their lowered black (F)Y33 that looks pretty damn sexy to me.

True, quality 19 inch tires will not save you too much moola compared to 20 inchers of the same brand, but I would think that the price difference wouldn't be much.

I'd guess that more twenty inch tires are available at a lower price because so many folks want to say they're rollin' on DUBs or larger and not want to be truly individual.

That said, color matching the lower rockers on 97-98 (F)Y33's would help to visually lower the vehicle.

Please re-read the guy's post. He wants opinions on 20's or 22's.

That said, I prefer 20's as long as they don't raise the car from its stock ride height.

I would say stick with 20s unless you can make the 22s fit without rubbing and without making the car look too high. Check out the FX45 20s, they look really good on the Y33.

I dont know about you, but from looking at those pics, 20's are the absolute biggest I'd run.

Maybe I missed something, but how does running bigger wheels with the same outside diameter destroy the suspension? Doesnt it have more to do with lowering the car too much more than wheel size?

Go with 20" rims. 22's are to big for the car. I have 20" on my car and I don't have any problems with it other than burning a tad bit more gas since you are putting a heavier load on the car. It's just funny how some people on here feels since you have 20" on your car it's "ghetto" but if you have 19" wheels, it's ok . I love my car and it's not "ghetto" because I don't have wheels that is 1" smaller than what you perfer. Now, 22's would be pushing the so called "ghetto" button

Anyone in Phoenix area that wants a smokijg deal on new 20" chrome wheels and almost brand new Z-rated tire, PM me.They are from an F50.

I won't ship, so they have to go to someone local.Better if they can inspect them first anyway.

I have a crazy idea. Why dont you buy a 70's - 80's Cadillac, put those huge *** wheels on it, and leave the brilliantly designed Q45 the way the Japanese engineers who designed it meant it to be. What will we see next? A solid gold metal flake Q, maybe even one with flame shooting tailpipes? Wait, someone already was that rediculous.....
