This is why you should never put a high pressure cap on a stock plastic tanked radiator. Especially one with 210,000 miles on it.

PS. 4 years of abuse from me, and the SR20 probably didn't help either.

In the 7 years Ive owned the car, and the 4/5 Ive had the SR, its never been an issue. I must have angered the car somehow.

Whatever, its a good excuse to get a Koyo, and some Samco hoses.

It was like a muffled gun shot, then I went blind.

The majority of the steam/coolant came straight out the hood vent, and hit the windshield.

It scared the living heck out of me.

No im not stupid, u know how it is with these cars. It feels like were always waiting for something to break. It would just be an excuse to upgrade. When your married w/ children u take whatever opportunities come up

I think it you were pretty fortunate to get that much life out of the stock radiator with the SR and higher pressure cap. This is only an assumption, but I would think that the SR + stock radiator + normal driving = no issues. But who drives their S-Chassis normal after doing an engine swap?

I think you got your money's worth out of the stock unit. Now you can get some higher rated stuff and smile about it later.

To Frank E Bones:

I feel your pain. I just have another account that I send a couple hundred dollars a month to and use that when I want to do something with the car. Unfortunately, that is my personal fun money also,

Damn! I bet that did scare the crap out of you. I'd rather have that happen than to pop the block tho! Have fun with your new parts.

I'm shopping for coolant hoses right now, and after reading your post I'm going with Samco.

Sweeeeet. Thanks a ton for the reference. It's easy to trust your opinion based on your rep.

On a side note, and not in the spirit of thread-jacking, I've got little black bits floating around in my coolant. I believe it is my current hoses breaking down, hence why I'm buying new ones.

Does that stand up to your technician's logic, or do you think it could be something else? I can refer you to my thread on this issue if need be.

I checked your thread. I wouldn't be too worried. Its likely just dirt particulates from the bottom of the radiator, or the hoses. It is likely that the corrosion protection of your coolant is gone, and the surface coating on the inside of the radiator is starting to break down. I would say flush the coolant ASAP, and change the hoses while you are at it.

Rgr that. Thanks, Ian!

p.s. I have Water Wetter in the coolant right now. Does that effect the longevity of the coolant life (question is for future flushing, maintenance purposes).

Have you contemplated going with g05 or just straight green.I love the go5 for not only the extended life but also the color being basically clear allows you too see any problems very fast. Also what was the point of running a 3psi higher cap? That needed for a higher volume wp or the sr in general.Watter wetter shouldn't harm coolant levels whatsoever but my understanding is it's main purpose is for peolpe running straight water to get better cooling. I don't think it benefits antifreeze any.

I got the copper core sports radiator. They cool just as well, if not better, they just dont look as pretty.

Once the wings get done losing, I will take my tape measure outside, and measure away.

I completely forgot, my wife got home, and we left for up north.

The bottom pins are 14 3/4 " apart on center

The tops are 25" apart on center

I picked up a new fan today too. I had been running a single 10" fan I scavenged off a friends go kart.

Now Ive got a nice 14" Derale Tornado cooling fan. I got it from the local hot rod shop. My buddy Brian had one of these on his V8 FC, and it moved some freakin air.
