Just purchased my wife a 2016 SL Premium in pear white/charcoal. Had the dealer throw in the Homelink mirror and chrome bumper protector as part of the deal...

Should there be a plastic cover over the wire between the headliner and the mirror? Ours does not have it... The wire is visible. Just want to know if it should have the cover or not before I contact the dealer.

Thanks!

My 2015 SL AWD has the same mirror and the wire coming from the mirror back to the head liner is visible. You hardly notice it when driving and the only time I notice is when I ghave to hang my parking pass for work.

There's no cover for it. Little sloppy to not cover the wire but like kboo74 said, it's hardly noticeable in regular driving.

Is this hard to do DIY? I saw the installation sheet and did not look too bad, but just wanted to confirm regarding ease of removing the driverside plastic column cover. I was surprised to find out that 2014 SL did NOT come with one considering all the creature comfort that it does come with and I wasn't able to get my dealer to throw one in, unfortunately. I see bunch of them on ebay for sale for around $50 and was wondering whether I can just install it myself.

Only warning I see is about airbag and that does concern me a bit though.

I installed an aftermarket Homelink mirror and got the wire cover off ebay.
Just go to ebay and use search terms "rearview mirror wire cover" Be sure to measure the length from your headliner to windshield mount to make sure you get one that is long enough.

So I just bought a 2016 Rogue. I am interested in installing a homelink mirror too. I have no issues with the DIY, but I did look on Ebay and could only find new mirrors in the $200+ range for my model year. Lots of cheap used ones from older cars. Will they also work? Or do I need a newer mirror from a 2nd gen rougue?

The part number for the 2016 Rogue is: 999L1-VZ001

Here's a novel idea, and I'm just spitballin' here, but how about using the SEARCH feature on this forum.

2014 Rogue Homelink install
2015 Rogue - Auto dimming mirror
Fuse box connections Homelink mirror
2015 SL owner looking for Homelink option
Homelink swap 2008 SL to 2015 SL

I looked at the installation instructions posted.

One thing that confuses me is why the wiring instruction takes the wire all the way down the A pillar instead of just running the wire up to the lighting system and splice it there. It intuitively is FAR shorter run and appear not to mess around where there are airbags and stuffs.

Has anyone wired in the homelink mirror into the map light area instead of down the A pillar like the Nissan official instruction? I saw some Nissan Juke instruction which runs the wire right into the map light area.

Also, is there really big difference between Nissan Homelink Mirror vs. Gentex one? As Gentex one is 1/4 as expensive as Nissan one (other than the compass color being orange on OEM vs. Green on Gentex).

Thanks.

Ok, we're starting to stray off topic. This thread is about the plastic cover for the wires. We have threads dealing with the homelink mirror DIY install, so any questions regarding that topic should be posted there.
