Hi all

Happy New Year! I was wondering if you could assist. I went to close my trunk using the hatch mounted button but nothing. The switch inside is set to on and the hatch opens fine with the remote and also the button on the dash.

Any suggestions on what to try?

Thanks!

J

Sounds like there's a code in the Auto Back Door Controller. Some conditions, like spindle count errors, will allow the door to open on auto but not close. You need to get the ABD read by the dealer or someone with a high-end scanner. Many times all they need is a parameter reset.

That's different. If it closes normally with everything except the door button and you're sure the main switch is on, then it can't be the pinch sensors or spindles. Chances are it's a problem with the button or wiring. The inside trim is fairly easy to pull down for inspection, it may just be the connector was never latched properly and lost contact or fell out. You can use a voltmeter at the switch to diagnose a wiring issue, you should normally see voltage across the two switch terminals (I think 5V, but possibly 12V), but it should go to 0V when the switch is pressed. If there's normal movement then the problem isn't the switch and there may be a problem with the ABD Controller, see the dealer. If there's no voltage across the pins, check both terminals individually against a chassis ground. If you see voltage on one pin but not the other, press the switch and re-check the voltage on the pin that didn't have any. If it now shows voltage, the ground wire is open. If it still shows no voltage, the switch is bad. If you see no voltage on either pin, then the signal wire is open or the ABD Controller has a blown input. The most likely spot for any wire failure is at the flex boot between the roof and hatch, since that has to coil and un-coil every time the hatch is operated.

Thanks for that I’ll give it a try. Just strange how it was fine and after not driving the vehicle and having it parked for a few days when it was cold seemed to have started acting up

Might be a pin-fit issue with the switch connector, then. Or a broken wire that's separating when cold.

If its the wire like VStar states, thats separating when cold, best tip is to use some mechanical tape and cover the exposed wiring so it will not happen again.

I am hoping someone can assist with a similar issue: My 2012 Rogue is also not latching at the rear hatch. I replaced the actuator a few years ago when I had this issue and it has worked great...until now. It seems to need another actuator replaced. I previously purchased an OEM part #90502-zn90a and it has lasted less than 3 years. I found another actuator #90502-CA00C for a much better price but I am having difficulty determining conclusively that it will fit. Many sites offering this actuator have the 2012 Rogue listed, but the list of part numbers does not include the ZN90A version. Is anyone able to confirm or deny that this part will likely fit? Thanks!!

Go to NissanPartsDeal.com and enter your VIN, then search the -CA00C part number. If it shows a fit then the part is cross-compatible, if not then there's something that differs.

So went and tried it and I can hear a click when I press the button. Is there a how to on removing the back panel to see what I’m looking for?

The inside panel is pretty simple, it's only held in by plastic pawls. Use a plastic prybar to pop the pull-handle recess out of the inner panel, then pry downward on the rearward edge of the inner panel till the pawls come loose. Don't let the panel fall because the switch and wires will still be connected. Pop the connector off the switch and then you can remove the panel. Then pop the switch loose from the panel (the pawls are on the inside) and you can reattach it for testing.
