Has anyone installed an amplifier and subwoofer yet to their 2014+ Rogues? Looking to install a JL 8" Microsub and NVX MVPA1 amplifier to the stock, non-bose system.

Hi Guam; doing a search on this topic and all I've found so far is your unanswered post. I'm also installing an amp which calls for 8 gauge wire, directly from the battery with a 40 amp fuse. I have an '09 Rogue and cannot find a place to run the wire from the battery through the firewall. How did you wire your amp?

drill a hole in the firewall using a step bit.

I just purchased an Alpine 50 watt RMS x 4 amplifier for a Pioneer HU in an '09 Rogue. For power, it calls for 8 gauge wire directly from the battery with a 40 amp fuse. I have the wire and the fuse but cannot find an access through the firewall. For anyone that has installed an amp, where did you hook up the power? How did you get through the firewall?

You can either find a grommet already in the firewall and punch a hole through it, or drill a new hole if you can't find anything.

CLEV, you've already asked and received the answer to your question. There was no need to start a new thread to ask the same thing all over again. :nono:

I've merged the two threads.

Please take a moment to review the house rules.

Thank you, Rogue one. Sorry for the double post, but after replying to the original post from Guam, I realized that it had been posted for a couple of weeks with no response. Not knowing why no one wanted to help him, I thought my post would sit here just like his, so I posted my own post. I should have deleted the reply and sent Guan a PM.

I can find no grommets, but the engine is pretty tight against the fire wall. To drill a hole, I'll have to jack it up and get under it.

Guys. It's been discussed before. Here's the thread for 1st gen Rogue about some installation of sub. I'm pretty sure '14 should be if not the same then very similar. Hope it helps: how-to-make-your-rogue-go-thump-thump-t ... 71349.html

Haven't even gotten around to a formal introduction but had a query regarding the subwoofer installation. I recently purchased a powered subwoofer ( Kenwood KSC-SW11 -http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BO8 ... UTF8&psc=1 ). I was wondering what may be required to install it to the basic (non-Bose) headunit of my 2015 SV.

Plan on dropping it at an Audio Install place next week to install along with my other aftermarket components, but just wanted to ensure the cost of work equates to the actual requirements.

Cheers!

You would most likely need a line out converter to install any aftermarket audio to a stock headunit. That's what i had to do in my 14 Rogue. That kenwood looks very interesting. Are you planning to mount it under your seat?

Hey TaoLao,

Yeah that's the plan. There's a slight hump that runs about half the width of the seat, but I should be able to mount it accordingly without little trouble (also the seats are not electronic, which frees up some space for the underside of the seat.

Will let you know how it turns out once I get it into the shop this week.

Update.

I finished the install this weekend to include:
-JL Audio MicroSub 8in
-NVX MVPA1 Amp
-PAC Line Out Converter

I will note that for us 2014/2015 owners there is a unused grommet/plug directly above the hood latch cable. I just pulled the plug out and cut a small hole in it to fit the power wire. From there i ran the power wire under all the plastic trim along the drivers side floor. I installed the line out converter behind the head unit tapping into the rear speaker wires coming out of the head unit. I tapped into the ignition wire on the head unit for the remote power on for the amplifier.

I think this will greatly benefit anyone trying to add a sub to their stock head unit. If you guys have any questions please feel free to ask.

Hey Guam,

Congrats on the install! I'm assuming you have the Non-Bose system? If so, do you think I could get by without an AMP for my setup?

Jubmasterflex,

I do have the non-bose system. I am not too familiar with the powered sub that you have. I will note though that usually powered subs indicate that there is some sort of amplifier built in. Now if it did have an amp built in the next question would be if it had speaker level inputs or if you have to run a line out converter.

Thanks, Leo. I saw that post while searching but ruled it out when he started dis-assembling the drivers' side of the engine compartment. For those that are still looking for a place to bring the power from the battery, I drilled beside of the steering link in the floor. There's a plastic cover around the link, on the left side of the gas pedal, that snaps off. I checked under the vehicle and then drilled at the two o'clock position. From there, it was simple to run the wire to the battery. I sealed the hole around the wire on both sides of the floor and ran the wire up behind the head unit. I had removed the top panel, head unit, and climate control unit, and the Alpine MPV-f300 amp fits behind the climate control unit with easy access for all wiring.

I saw in this thread, as well as other searches, the use of a 'line convertor'. I'm not sure what that is; can someone explain? I've added amplifiers many times and they have always had 2 inputs; the speaker output wires from the head unit or RCA jacks; but both cannot be used at the same time. This time, I used the RCA's because the HU had RCA outputs. I'm checking on adding an amplifier to the stock HU in my truck that has no rca jacks and will wire them directly into the amp. So, what does a line convertor accomplish?

Hey clev,

Line out converter is used in situations when you want to install aftermarket amps with the factory head unit with no RCA output by converting the speaker line from the head unit to RCA. Then you just plug the RCA cable from the loc to the amp.

Great job, Guam! I had to do the exact same thing when wiring the power. It was a little tough. Do you have pics of the finished installation?

Thanks, Tao. I Chatted with a Crutchfield rep and according to him, if the amplifier has inputs for speaker wires, no extra line convertor is needed. The amplifier with do the converting. That's what I thought, but wasn't sure exactly what the line convertor was supposed to accomplish.

No problem. It's just another way to get signal to the amp. Some amps don't have inputs for speaker wires then you would need a line converter. In my situation, I have an equalizer....it doesn't have any speaker wire input, so i would need a converter to the equalizer and then from there to the amp

Tao. I dont have any photos of the finished installation but I will take some this weekend. It turned out really clean and the bass response is excellent.

Clev. Manly amplifiers now have speaker level inputs which allow you to tap your existing speaker wires and connect directly to your amplifier for sound. My amplifier did have speaker level inputs but I chose to install a line out converter for a cleaner installation (less wires). I tapped into the speaker wires behind the head unit so the only wires running to the cargo area would be the power, RCA's, and remote on wire. The line out converter also known as a LOC online in many forums basically takes the signal from your speaker wires and transforms the signal to a RCA level. I purchased an adjustable Line out converter so that I could adjust the volume of the signal.

Do you remember the wire colors you tapped into? Also were you able to just pop off the radio surround and pull the unit out after unbolting the sides?

I do not remember the colors off hand. I used the factory service manual to look up the colors of the wires coming out of the factory head unit for the rear speakers. I also looked for the wire labeled ignition on the same harness to supply power for the remote signal to turn on the amplifier.

I popped off the small panel where the push start button is as well as the little trim panel above the glove compartment. I also popped out the climate control piece under the head unit. These parts are held in by clips and i just popped them out with a trim removal tool. Once you have those out you need to unscrew 4 philips head screws to remove the head unit.

Great info. Could you please share some photos of the grommet/hole/plug?, place where this is exactly located, I want to run some cables from cabin through firewall too.

Thanks.

Hey Guam711. Do you happen to still have the service manual? If so, could you look something up for me? I know the colors of the speaker wires behind the head unit but I'm not sure the polarity. Which colors are +/- ?
I would just buy the manual, but I can't justify buying it if knowing the polarity is all I need.. ya know?

After testing the wires with another speaker this is what I've figured out are the colors:
RR Yellow/Light Blue
LR Brown/Gray
RF Purple/Green
LF Pink/White

P.S. My 2014 Rogue S is the 2nd gen Rogue, not the Rogue Select.

Never mind I FOUND IT! :)

2014 / 2015 / 2016 Nissan Rogue (not select) - behind the HU speaker colors and their polarity:
LF White (+) / Pink (-)
RF Green (+) / Violet (-)
LR Gray (+) / Brown (-)
RR Light Blue (+) / Yellow (-)
(it says “LG" for the RR (+) but it’s not light green, it’s a light blue. Unless I'm color blind..)

I found the service manual just searching through NicoClub

I'm tapping into these wires behind the HU with an Audio Control LC7i so that I can install and run a 5 channel amp, upgrade the speakers, and install a sub...In case anyone wondered. ;)

if you are still active here, can you tell me how you got the batter power inside cabin ? im planning to do in my 2016 rogue.
