Automatics have come a long way... dualtronic/dual clutch autos in particular. The EPA and Nissan claim the CVT is more efficient than the manual.

...it can certainly be done if you are hell bent on doing it that way. You can set up your gear ratios so you are taching way higher in 6th gear than you should be. Hell, you can even richen the ECU just to prove your case.

Don't care really. As long as it's fiscally manageable (sp?), I'm gonna drive what I like.

well yeah, I'm not saying that... I'm saying we should start a fuel economy poll for the new Versa like we did for the old one... to see if the CVT has improved to the point to where it can actually beat the manual trans in terms of fuel economy in real world application, not just on paper (because the CVT beat the manual on paper in the last generation too, but not in real life).

It'll help members that are purely looking for an economy car/fuel economy make an informed decision about which trans to get.

Good point. You want me to work on that one? Do you want to segregate Versa owners or include all CVT owners?

I think we'll have to wait until the vehicle launches and gets a few sold before we can compile data. It should be as easy as making a sticky thread in the Versa forum asking members to post up their fuel economy and driving style (city/highway, mixed, etc).

...hopefully into space where it will never be seen again. Anyone who buys this (or an Aveo, or any equivalent box of sad) over a gently used car deserves to stay poor.
