After missing the mark in 2009, Subaru continues to add higher levels of performance to the WRX, bumping the power output to 265-hp in 2010 and now announcing that for 2011 all WRX models will come with the STI’s wide-body. And it’s not just for show either. Starting in 2011, those flared fenders will make room for a track that is 1.5-inches wider in both the front and rear. Inside each fender a set of 17×8-inch wheels come mounted with wider 235/45/17 tires – which can only add to the all-wheel drive grip.

In addition, the WRX also gets a new front lip and larger blacked-out grille and air intakes, not to mention the addition of the STI’s rear subframe bushings. Subaru will continue to offer the WRX both as a four-door sedan and five-door hatchback.

“The new wide-body designs mark another major step on the continuous evolution of the WRX to give driving enthusiasts an even more compelling all-wheel drive performance package,” said Tom Doll, executive VP of Subaru of America.

Subaru is likely to officially unwrap the 2011 Impreza WRX at the New York Auto Show next week and we’ll be on hand to bring you plenty of photos, with live coverage starting March 31st.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Looks ugly and needs to be lowered. But if it's low enough to where it looks good, it won't easily be daily driven and many complaints will be had.

Should be an option in my opinion.

Now that is actually pretty sexay, Just change the hood scoop back to the old one and it'll look good. Make that a 2 door coupe and I'll have a new car to look for.

I like the new look, but the only thing they could improve on is the rear quarter panel. How much more is this then the base model sti?

That's my point.1: 235 not "wide" and2: you you can definitely go wider on 8 inch wheels and3: With 1.5 inch wider fenderwells/track, they could have fit more under the car. Add 1.5 inches to the body and then only add less than 1/2 inch total to the tire width? 10 more mm per side means only 5 mm per side would affect fender clearance. 5 mm. That's 1/5 inch. If you're going to brag about fitting more tire, fit MORE tire.

Agreed. I thought the new Toyota WRX looked bad enough already...the widebody is even worse. And those "I wish I was a GTR" WRX badges on the front fenders are capital STUPID.

The 5-door STi in blue with gold wheels is definitely the best out of the new ones. The old ones are still better imo

Really wish they would bring back the 2 door coupe WRX (ala 22B model). I think there is actually a few people out there who would by a 2 door model. Also I've never really been a fan of the 5 door body style, and while I have nothing against a four door sedan or a 2 door hatchback the 4 door hatchback is just ugly.
