Sometimes the fitting on the back of the vac/boost gauge isn't tightened down enough. It will leak and you may not even hear it. I see that you fixed some vac leaks, but did you do a boost leak check? Do that and check your ign timing first.Jimefam wrote:Well I achieved my resolutions with the huge help of a friend I Finally got around to putting the engine in the car and starting it. At first I was devastated as it was making this crazy screeching and knocking sound I was sure it was a bent rod. We quickly turned it off and I began to weigh my options(really I was just oscillating between screams and a dazed stupor) We decided to turn it on again and hook up the oil pressure gauge i'd bought to see if the oil pump was not functioning and had caused some problems cause the engine ran good for a few minutes before the sound began. Well we turn it on and the pressure is fine but the screeching is getting louder and just 2 seconds before I turned the key it shut up. I still turned it off but we were curious why the hell it stopped so we turned it back on and sure enough it was there but we listened carefully and my genius of a friend smiled at me and turned off the engine. I was wondering what the hell he could be so happy about but he quickly removed the timing belt cover and cas and found that the cam gear bolts were loose and scrapping against the cas and causing the noise. Tightened them up to spec and ran it again and now it purrs beautifully. However I do have a problem and maybe someone here has an idea, after checking the vacuum we found a couple of leaks and fixed them but still only shows a 14 on the vacuum gauge and I've read it should be 18-20. We haven't checked the ignition timing but the valve timing is spot on. He thinks its a bent valve or worn piston rings and I know nothing. Anything else we could check?
