My thought is that you shouldn't hear any grunting relating to the drivetrain mounts, I would expect it more from something that spins or slides against another as pointed to above.
If you want to eliminate the motor mounts for sure, it shouldn't be too hard to do at home.
THIS THREAD in the M45 forum has some pointers on troubleshooting them.
Also, although bad motor mounts could clunk or thud when shifting to and from park, my experience is that RWD cars don't exhibit that as much as FWD. But you'll feel them when accelerating or decelerating aggressively.
