i feel ya, but they're trying something different... for the sake of the Big 3... let's let em try and see how it turns out... there was no bigger anti-American car guy than me, but again, in light of recent economic events, i think all 3 companies are trying to think outside of the box...Sith LL_Coupe wrote:This car bothers me... I mean first off... it's a 3.5L V6 Engine pushing 365 HP! Yes, I know it's turbo'd, but still... most factory turbos don't push those numbers on a 3.5L engine. Secondly... the Taurus has always been a full sized family car since it was created. Why do they think this car would appeal to the car enthusiasts of the world?? That's like Toyota coming out with a 350HP Camry... it just sounds retarded!
LOL, good quote there Doc. I'm not bashing Ford at all... I am not really a fan of American cars for the last 20 so years myself either, and if anything I think Ford is 10 steps ahead of GM or Chrysler when it comes in quality and innovation... but I just think they should have used this new engine on a different car to start with. The Taurus in my eyes from growing up as a kid was something your parents drove around to go shopping, not to do burnouts in the parking lot!rjdmmfl1 wrote: You take your good old fashioned lemonade (all previous Ford Taurus models) and you turn that into a Mike's hard lemonade!
My girlfriend loves her 02 Taurus for some reason. I hate it. If she wanted to upgrade to the 6 with turbo's, I would not mind one bit!Sith LL_Coupe wrote:This car bothers me... I think this is the wrong way to go for Ford. I love the idea of factory turbos with factory warranties in mainstream cars, and I would jump on an Ecoboost engine in a Fusion-sized platform, but this is pretty short-term thinking.Sith LL_Coupe wrote:
After reading this thread, I read this article on their EcoBoost engine (which I know Mehdi will to and worship) . Anyways... pretty interesting... Ford is going to be putting these into 500,000 new cars over the next few years. The stats seem impressive... they decided to go Turbo istead of Hybrid and still save 20% off MPG and 15% off CO2 Emissions while gaining HP... not a bad idea at all in my books.

what are you talking about? people NEED trucks and will ALWAYS NEED trucks! they dont like trucks because of the bad MPG but if Ford starts putting out turbo charged 4 cylinder and 6 cylinders instead of big V8's, they're obviously going to get better fuel economy and make people want to buy those instead of the competition. what alternatives do they have? spend billions of dollars on hybrid programs which Toyota is so far ahead on that it would blow away any hybrid they could make? ya, make a hybrid that fails to beat the competition and waste billions in the process.... this is the best thing they could do.1125Altima3.5 wrote:
If gas goes back to $4-6/gallon in a few years (and I bet it will), no one's going to care that an Ecoboost engine gets 20% better fuel economy than a standard N/A engine. Ford should be working on hybrids and electric vehicles if they want to be around for a long time. Instead they'll be focusing a huge part of their attention and engineering resources on these new engines. Anyone care to take a guess at the 5-year failure rate of the Ecoboost turbos?
Who's talking about trucks? I'm talking about engines.Hussain wrote:

they say they are going to do that. they say it will be more powerful then the current 4.6L V8 and more fuel efficient.... i think they'll keep the supercharged 5.4L though... they NEED to have at least 1 V8 model in the mustang line up lol but Ford announced that they're putting the AWD system and TT V6 into the Ford Fusion and making it the SVT Fusion or something... they hope to have it as a cheap alternative to the Audi S4.rcboy514 wrote:ill be worryin when they trade out the v8 in the stang for a TT V6!
I may get one lol jk i love my alti
Hussain wrote:the twin turbo V6 in the taurus is going into the F150 in 1-2 years they said... tucks need to be very reliable so there sort of testing out the motor in the taurus... they've had it in a Lincoln for a couple years now (forgot which model). who cares about hybrids when the number one selling vehicle forever has been a truck (the F150). if they make the F150 fuel efficient, more people would be inclined to buy that then they would a prius fighter. the thing is, here in America they look at the name more then they do the vehicle. that is why Infiniti, Lexus, Scion, Acura, etc, only exist in America. Prius already has the name that everyone knows. if they make a hybrid it MAY steal SOME sales but if they make a fuel efficient truck they WILL steal MANY sales from chevy, dodge, GM, Toyota, Nissan.
PLUS Ford has always been about quantity. look at rolls royce for example, VERY EXPENSIVE but limited quantity. if you apply that to hybrids, why would Ford want to make something EXTREMELY fuel efficient and have the other vehicles suck on gas? Ford is about quantity so they would like to make they're entire line up more fuel efficient instead of 1 car getting AMAZING MPG.... they will have Ford Fusions better on gas and more powerful then altimas, taurus better on gas and more powerful then Maxima, focus better on gas and more powerful then sentra, twin turbo V6 F150 WAAAAAY better on gas then the 5.6L V8 Titan... they're trying to go at the WHOLE car market, not a small specific branch.
According to autoblog it weighs in at 4,368 lbs.CoupeVQ35CVT wrote:As for all that horse power, I'm sure it'll need it just to get around. I'm betting like most new midsize cars it'll probably weigh in at a nice fat 3500-3700 lbs especially the AWD, or more.
What I'm saying is that a car company can attempt to address those needs and wants using any engine technology, including hybrids and possibly electric vehicles.Hussain wrote:anyone can leas hybrid technology and attempt to make a hybrid (like Nissan did with the hybrid altima... which gets 1/2 the fuel economy of a prius), but to rework your entire line up from small cars to big trucks with all new motors that are fuel efficient as well as powerful is something amazing.

I was referring to Scion.audtatious wrote:Toyota simply learned that "plain Jane" pays in the US marketplace....That and a side-step with the Prius.....Lots of Americans will purchase "ugly"....Look at all the Malibu Classics out there and the Caprices.....
