I have recently been experiencing issues with my 2009 Nissan Sentra that has 156,000 miles.
I first noticed the issue of it not "catching" and "jerking" when accelerating after getting off the interstate. No matter how hard I would press the gas, the car would slowly accelerate and then jerk and register with how hard I was mashing the gas. (I'm really not sure how to explain this so please bare with me!) The car also has always made a "whining" noise when accelerating since I got it in 2010, and it no longer makes that noise.

I took the car to the shop this past Friday and got the oil and spark plugs changed, they fixed a wheel bearing they noticed needed repair and they checked the transmission fluid and stated that it is fine. The car sat for a weekend and when I drove it Monday, the car was still "jerking" no matter the speed and sometimes would "jerk" four to five times back to back. This morning while sitting in a drive through in idle, the car would "jerk" (it has always done a "shivering" while in idle but now its the same feeling in idle now as accelerating). I have been told that it could be the CVT Transmission that is causing the issues, but I would like some advise on what I could be dealing with before taking it to the shop. The car is only worth around $3,500 so I don't know if serious maintenance would be worth it.

Please let me know if more detail is needed.

Just went outside to show someone the issues and while pressing the brake with the car in drive, it's causing my leg to shake BAD.

Does it rev up when you're in gear and press the gas (and not go anywhere), or does it not rev up?

My money is on the CVT. Take a moment to read this on Nissan's site: http://www.nissanassist.com/faqs.php?menu=3 Nissan extended the CVT warranty for the one in your vehicle to 10 years OR 100,000 miles, so you've missed the cut-off. The Nissan CVT needs to be serviced every 30,000 miles. Has this ever been done by you or the previous owner(s)?

If it is the transmission, it will need to be replaced (sorry, they can't just do a rebuild). I believe the average repair cost is $2,900.

You may want to browse through this NICO thread as well: CVT Transmission Issues. (Fail safe, Whining, Temps, & FIX!)

It rev's fine, but it's very slow.

The CVT has never been serviced that I'm aware of. I have had the car since 16 (I'm almost 22) and I have never had any issues other than tires until now. I didn't know the CVT needed to be serviced until I began having these issues and started doing research. But that's what I was afraid of. I took it to Advanced Auto for them to run for codes and got back: Engine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction, Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Intermittent, and Transmission. I took it to the shop this morning for them to look at it and give me a quote and when showing him the codes, he said it could be a number of things. I'm currently waiting to hear back from him.

I've been told that it is either the Torque Solenoid or the Converter. He's going to replace the Solenoid and Transmission Fluid to see if that resolves my issues and if it doesn't, he'll move to the Converter.
