You just purchased it from whom? A private seller? A new/used car dealership? Did it come with a limited warranty? Have you tried contacting the seller?

Option 1) Check for loose connection. Here's how to remove the stereo: http://nissanhelp.com/diy/rogue/project ... cedure.php
If it's not a loose connection, you'll have to replace it (at YOUR expense): panel-removal-help-for-stereo-t492512.html
Option 2) Take it back and let them deal with it.

Ok. I know it probably was not the option you were hoping for. Anyway, take some time to go over your vehicle and note any other issues that you may need to bring to their attention. There were quite a number of Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) issued for the 2009 Rogue http://www.automd.com/tsb/nissan_m/rogue_mm/2009_y/ You may want to make sure they have been taken care of, so make sure to talk to them about these as well.

Quick thought:
Did you check to see if one of the button is stuck?
If one if them are stuck, then you can't press others until that one is "released" (I think)
Just a quick thought before you heading out for the long drive.
