I just hope your "friends boyfriend" is a perfectionist and knows how to do these types of installations with a professional end result so you'll be happy with how it turns out. I've seen a lot of hack jobs (i.e. scratched bezels, wires spliced together by twisting and wrapping with electrical tape instead of crimping or soldering etc) Also... he may want to do the install this week... but... if "you" want it done right it should be installed when you have everything you need rather than rushing it to meet his or your schedule. Waiting one or two more weeks is better than ending up with an installation you'll regret every time you look at the radio.globe9 wrote: My friend's boyfriend is going to install the receiver I bought into my Rogue. I have a 2010 S, so no Bose system, just basic system. He can only do it during the week, while I'm at work, so I won't be there to help/supervise. He knows how to do the swap out and install of new receiver, but he's not sure about how to remove the panel to get out the factory stereo(hasn't seen the interior of my Rogue yet, but was asking about this). Is there anywhere I can go online or on a faq here that will show dash trim removal instructions/diagrams?
Also, he doesn't have dash removal tool.....can this be bought at a place like Radio Shack or something? If not, where, locally can one usually find something like that? He wants to do this, this week, so don't have time to order online.

That sounds like a stereo removal tool. A dash removal tool should be made of a non-marring material.globe9 wrote:He then went to a drawer and dug through a Kenwood box and pulled out these 2 very thin metal things(by thin I mean that it's so lightweight, I could bend this with my hands if I tryed). I'm thinking I may have had these things included in my Kenwood stereo's box along with all the packaged accessories and this probably isn't a panel removal tool and maybe a stereo removal tool? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Do I still need to go find a panel removal tool?
The instructions make it sound worse than it really is. Removing the AC vents and surround as well as the climate control panel isn't a big deal. If you have the center speaker it has to be unscrewed but aside from that, everything is held in with clips and just pops out.globe9 wrote:Thanks for the links to the schematics Phillip. I looked at them and while they seem complicated to me, I hope my friend's boyfriend knows what they are. Am I really going to have to take apart almost the whole console(a/c controls below the factory radio and the air vents over the factory radio to install the new single din stereo?
It is just one piece but you have to remove the panels above and below the head unit in order to access the four screws that secure it to the dash. If the guy's a perfectionist he'll be fine. All he has to do is follow the instructions step-by-step. If you try to memorize everything then it will seem complicated. I've removed and reinstalled these pieces a few times now (to install/troubleshoot the Nissan iPod interface and to install a new accessory power jack) and there's really nothing to it.globe9 wrote:I thought the panel that holds the stereo was just one piece and he could just take that out? Anyone who's installed a stereo themselves into the Rogue know?
Here's the instructions on how to remove the original headunit. All you need is screwdriver and piece of paper or towel to cover the screwdriver:globe9 wrote:Hi Guys,

It's a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X994...it's a single din unit, so I will have a pocket underneath it. Would have liked double din, but the selection in double din is much smaller and I couldn't find one I was completely happy with....well that's a lie, I found one I loved, but it was like $800, so MUCH more than I was willing to spend LOL Looking forward to having the pocket though....the Rogue is short on little cubbies in the dash/console, so the pocket will be used.
Will def. post pics when I get it installed.

Just had to do all this again yesterday to install a newer mount for the Droid from ProClip, secured near the dash cluster. It was only tricky getting everything back together due to the wiring for the Droid mount and the better half's iPod mount. The latter is also in a ProClip mount but mounted to the Panavise bracket that secures to the right side of the head unit. She prefers to control the iPod Touch via the iPod itself.takeshi wrote:Removing the AC vents and surround as well as the climate control panel isn't a big deal.
