Hi Guys,

My friend's boyfriend is going to install the receiver I bought into my Rogue. I have a 2010 S, so no Bose system, just basic system. He can only do it during the week, while I'm at work, so I won't be there to help/supervise. He knows how to do the swap out and install of new receiver, but he's not sure about how to remove the panel to get out the factory stereo(hasn't seen the interior of my Rogue yet, but was asking about this).
Is there anywhere I can go online or on a faq here that will show dash trim removal instructions/diagrams?

Also, he doesn't have dash removal tool.....can this be bought at a place like Radio Shack or something? If not, where, locally can one usually find something like that? He wants to do this, this week, so don't have time to order online.

Thanks!!

I just hope your "friends boyfriend" is a perfectionist and knows how to do these types of installations with a professional end result so you'll be happy with how it turns out. I've seen a lot of hack jobs (i.e. scratched bezels, wires spliced together by twisting and wrapping with electrical tape instead of crimping or soldering etc) Also... he may want to do the install this week... but... if "you" want it done right it should be installed when you have everything you need rather than rushing it to meet his or your schedule. Waiting one or two more weeks is better than ending up with an installation you'll regret every time you look at the radio.

As for the removal tool... you can pry out the trim with a screwdriver but thats a surefire way to end up with nicks and scratches. If you don't have a plastic screwdriver look around your kitchen for a plastic implement that is thin enough to fit in the cracks but strong enough to pry. Then again most auto parts supply stores carry an assortment of plastic trim removal tools...

Anyway... as to the installation...have him check out this thread for some information and photos of an installation:
post3587678.html?hilit=remove%20radio#p3587678

Although not a Nissan manual... here's a PDF file on removing the Rogues trim for aftermarket radio installation:
http://documents.victorytechnologies.co ... /12378.pdf

Last... Ideally you will have all the necessary aftermarket adapters you need "before" he starts the install. For example:
1) New trim piece for the new receiver
2) Wire harness adapter (so he won't have to cut up the Rogues wiring  (i.e. the Rogues radio wiring has features like a speed control sensor that automatically adjust the radios volume as you increase highway speed.)
3) An antenna adapter (if necessary to match your new receiver)

To get more information on the 3 items listed above...check out this thread:

Here is the link for the service manual, refer to page Rogue Manual pg IP-15 for instructions on how to remove the cluster lid, then then Rogue Manual pg AV-29 for instructions on how to remove the factory radio.

Actually, Elton, my friend's boyfriend is a perfectionist. That's actually why he wants me to drop it off. He works on weekends, but has time during the week. I have to be at work for noon during the week. He didn't want to be rushed to try and finish before noon, so he just asked me to drop it off. I've seen his stereo install and am confident he'll do at least as good a job as the installers at Best Buy or probably better. I'm not talking about some 19 year old kid either, this guy is in his late 30's and very good at this kind of stuff.

Bought stereo from Crutchfield, so I have all harnesses, adapters, dash kits, etc. It didn't come with a panel removal tool however. I tryed looking for this at Pep Boys and saw a kit with the tool, but the whole kit is $30.00 and I didn't need anything else in the kit. I then went to Best Buy to pick up a 6ft aux stereo cord(to run from rear aux input to glovebox) and asked the guy in the mobile section if they sold a dash removal tool....he said they didn't sell one, but he could give me one. He then went to a drawer and dug through a Kenwood box and pulled out these 2 very thin metal things(by thin I mean that it's so lightweight, I could bend this with my hands if I tryed). I'm thinking I may have had these things included in my Kenwood stereo's box along with all the packaged accessories and this probably isn't a panel removal tool and maybe a stereo removal tool? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Do I still need to go find a panel removal tool?

Thanks for the links to the schematics Phillip. I looked at them and while they seem complicated to me, I hope my friend's boyfriend knows what they are. Am I really going to have to take apart almost the whole console(a/c controls below the factory radio and the air vents over the factory radio to install the new single din stereo?
I thought the panel that holds the stereo was just one piece and he could just take that out? Anyone who's installed a stereo themselves into the Rogue know?

Thanks again. Just waiting for him to give me a call and tell me he's got time.

That sounds like a stereo removal tool. A dash removal tool should be made of a non-marring material.

The instructions make it sound worse than it really is. Removing the AC vents and surround as well as the climate control panel isn't a big deal. If you have the center speaker it has to be unscrewed but aside from that, everything is held in with clips and just pops out.

It is just one piece but you have to remove the panels above and below the head unit in order to access the four screws that secure it to the dash. If the guy's a perfectionist he'll be fine. All he has to do is follow the instructions step-by-step. If you try to memorize everything then it will seem complicated. I've removed and reinstalled these pieces a few times now (to install/troubleshoot the Nissan iPod interface and to install a new accessory power jack) and there's really nothing to it.

Make sure that he doesn't disconnect the airbag warning light or else you'll have to reset the airbag warning. Not a big deal but completely avoidable.

Here's the instructions on how to remove the original headunit. All you need is screwdriver and piece of paper or towel to cover the screwdriver:

I got this receiver Vivtri: http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_113K ... ml?tp=5684

It's a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X994...it's a single din unit, so I will have a pocket underneath it. Would have liked double din, but the selection in double din is much smaller and I couldn't find one I was completely happy with....well that's a lie, I found one I loved, but it was like $800, so MUCH more than I was willing to spend LOL Looking forward to having the pocket though....the Rogue is short on little cubbies in the dash/console, so the pocket will be used.

Will def. post pics when I get it installed.

But the Rogue has one BIG A** Glovebox! That was one of my first impressions when I first demoed a Rogue. I thought it was absolutley huge not to mention of the extra space under the bin (it was like a christmas surpise!) And pockets in the doors, middle console, and secret comparments in the back!

....... Just had a brain fart. Oh just thinking of the name glove box and it's terminology. It reminds me of the comedians who joke that we PARK on a DRIVEWAY, and how we DRIVE on a PARKWAY. How things are defined and not related to its real use in today's world. :lolling:

I am not aware of these secret compartments in the back seat area, other than in the doors, where do these magical secrets reside??!!

I keep driving gloves in the glove box -- in my other car.

Just had to do all this again yesterday to install a newer mount for the Droid from ProClip, secured near the dash cluster. It was only tricky getting everything back together due to the wiring for the Droid mount and the better half's iPod mount. The latter is also in a ProClip mount but mounted to the Panavise bracket that secures to the right side of the head unit. She prefers to control the iPod Touch via the iPod itself.

Well the stereo is installed! :) I haven't seen it yet as I am still at work, but will be going over there tonight to pick up the Rogue. He said install was a snap and that I needn't have been worried about the panel removal at all. He said it was easy.
He routed the mic for the bluetooth in the drivers side pillar, ran the rear usb and aux input to the glovebox, etc. He's already asking when I'm going to get new speakers LOL

Will post pics of install and everything else I've added(cargo mat, muffler tip, etc.) this weekend hopefully.

Is there some kind of faq on posting pics btw? Do I need to have them on a hosting site? Or can I just upload from my computer directly to the post?

Thanks!
