2008 AWD - What does the snow button do

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

They put this switch in such a dumb spot... it's as if they don't want you to use it, very much.

It's located on the left side of the Steering Column, below the AFS Switch, way down low on the Dash.

Yeah! that means you`ll think twice if you want to turn it off .

Possibly for safety reason on Infiniti part. Everytime we restart the car VDC is back on again....

i noticed that my VDC kicked in a bit too late. i can sense the rear braking loose and correct it even before the slippery road icon display on the dash board. If i let the rear to break loose a little bit longer, then the icon would flash on the dash board. what use is it if you could correct it before vdc kicking in.

Excerpt taken out of the EX35 Service Manual, Section EC, Page 473

SNOW MODE SWITCHDescription INFO-ID: 0000000003133663

The snow mode is used for driving or starting the vehicle on snowy roads or slippery areas. If the snow mode is activated, the vehicle speed will not be accelerated immediately than your original pedal in due to avoid the vehicle slip.

In other words, ECM controls the rapid engine torque change by controlling the electric throttle control actuator operating speed.

wow that is really weird. i do have vdc off to fwiw. although i don't think that has anything to do with it cause it didn't on our previous infiniti's. it's really weird to read this considering that's what i'm so used to but then was so surprised when it didn't limit the power on snow mode. wonder if ours is broken...

The "Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive System" decides which Wheels get the power... it's certainly NOT done by the Driver flipping Switches on the Console.

Obviously yutpeckc, you don't understand Infiniti's description of how the "Snow Mode Button" works. Feel free to re-read the descriptions above, from both the Owner's Manual and the Service Manual.

Okay, but then how come when I'm stuck and I try to accelerate with the snow mode on, none of the wheels move. I keep trying to accelerate, yet I still don't move. Then I turn off the Snow Mode and try to accelerate. This time, the wheels start moving. Even though its just spinning cause there is lack of traction, but its still spinning. Then ultimately, I'm freed.

Your are driving a bit aggressive...ease on the gas pedal, specially while turning. No gas during turn (on snowy road). Break before the turn on straight line, cruise on turn then gas on exit ....

Remember, the light from the dash is millisecond late than the actual VDC operation it`s taking place from the slipping tire source...

Did you turn the VDC switch off too? if not I don`t know how the snow mode connects to AWD function?

All I know is the snow mode is electronically controlling the engine power output to lessen the torque, and could also be switching the transmission gears?

Hi Guys.. Really njoyed the thread ..Good info from all. Now give me your Honest Opinion. I live in beautiful and very snowy Upstate New York. I am coming out of an Audi A6 and loved the Quattro system in our , 4 inches an hour snowstorms. I have my eye on a EX35 but am wondering how well the Infiniti AWD system will handle the slick and snow covered roads compared to the Audi. Give me your honest opinions. Thanks Guys !!
