My kid has an 06 m35 and the car just stalled and lit the slip and vdc lights up. Did a lil research and no difinitive answer as to what it could be. I just had him park the car at my folks place till I can get up there. Seems like it could be a few diff sensors. No CEL aside from slip and vdc though. I don't mind throwing a couple bucks into some sensors if they are easily swapable by me. Which ones are the typical culprits for this kind of issue? Car fired back up after the stall while car was moving when thrown into neutral and pushed the start button. Did it 2 times last night, the code reset on its own. Then 1 more time today lights still on. 108000 miles too, so if there are things that need to be swapped out now anyway please suggest as well. Thanks in advance.

Scan it for codes and see what they are. It may have a history code for something. Crank position sensor would cause a stall, but it's just a guess

Us 03-04 M45 guys have this problems quite regularly. It usually throws a CEL that will tell you exactly which sensor is bad. Seems it is almost always the camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, or intake valve timing control sensor. Good luck.

In your experience, are there certain brands to stay away from when buying replacement sensors? I saw replacements from about 30-80 a piece for the cam sensors. Typically I usually go middle of the road on pricing figuring they gotta be better than the el cheapo ones available. Any insight is appreciated.

I am beginning to think this forum isn't very active.

If it's the kids car, just go with middle of the road aftermarket part. No need to spend big bucks on factory ones or top of the line aftermarket sensors.

Again though, without a code it's just a guess. Cam sensors, in my experience, don't cause a stall. They can cause it to run like crap, but a crank sensor will cause a stall/no start.
