Hey Guys

Was hoping someone could shed a little insight to my problem. I installed a brand new K&N cold air intake kit on my 2004 nissan pathfinder. Day of the install the car ran great after the install. The car sat for a few days and then the next time i went to drive it the car started bucking when I accelerated hard.

It seems to be a problem a lot of people have encountered with CAI's.. I'm guessing it's the MAF sensor. But has anyone else had this problem? The filter kit borrows the MAF housing from the original set up and I was careful not to bang it around or be rough with it.

I would expect you to get a code thrown if there was a problem with the MAF sensor, but I suppose not necessarily. Is the Check Engine light on? Regardless, there's a troubleshooting procedure for P0100 in the EC - Engine Control System that you can follow to help determine if the MAF sensor is bad.

I also saw that someone else had a similar problem with their CAI because it wasn't getting enough air. I don't think that's the case here, but you'll probably want to remove your airbox resonator anyway:

I remember I also relocated the air temperature sensor from the resonator to the area where the filter was. It wasn't causing any noticeable issues where it was, but more food for thought.

That could be you IAT sensor, you need to relocate it closer to the intake.

probably has something to do with the install
i would look at the intake system and make sure there are no leaks and the pcm is receiving the correct air flow measurement. another thing I have seen is the maf sensor being soaked in oil from the filters. of course double check all your connections

Thanks for the reply fellas. Actually turns out that I ended up the p1130 code a few days later which indicated the swirl valve was bad... I uninstalled the cold air and went back to the original intake to make sure it wasn't the kit. Problem still was there. Changed the swirl valve with original parts and the problem is fixed.

Driving it for a week or so like this before I put the cold air back in. According to my mechanic/friend it was probably just a coincidence. The valve was on its way out.
