What's good y'all, Name is John and I am a new member to NICOclub.com. I recently bought my G35 with only 78k on it, upon purchased the car makes a noise as it first started, then the noise goes away afterword. Usually it makes the noise when the car cold. Once the car is driven, shuts off and restarts it, NO NOISE! The owner told me it was THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER. I have my mechanic replaced it, she still makes the noise when first started... The mechanic told me it's not a biggie cause the noise wont messed up my engine, but I am skeptical about it... Any ideas???????? what could be done to resolved that.

Thanks

Hey John I just ripped my engine down for the exact same problem. My problem was inside the timing advance on the intake cam. After tons of searching most people seem to have either a bad tensioner or a worn bucket shim. Then there are the ones who keep driving it because the cant figure it out. I replaced my timing parts and my noise is gone. I just posted about it. Heres the link

Hello, I have a 2006 g35. Everytime I start it there is a slight ticking noise. I figured it was the valves or cams. I pulled the valve covers and checked all of them and made sure all were to proper specs. And they were. Noise still continues. I half thought it may of been a valve tap or slight knock from the lower end. But from doing some investigating. I found that the noise was coming from the drivers side front end of the engine itself. Could it be that the tensinor is loose? Or could I have the same problem and a part is warn down? Mine has 115k on it. There has been no power loss or anything.
