2003 Nissan X-Trail

I have a 2003 Nissan X-Trail. The transmission lever works fine, moves from park to neutral to drive, etc.., but the transmission will not engage, it stays in park. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks.

Your X-Trail shares much in common with the Rogue, so I've moved your thread here.

There's a thread on the Shifter Stuck In PARK problem, but it sounds more like your shift linkage is damaged/broken.

I had this in my pathfinder, the bushing that connects the shifter to the linkage underneath maybe broke. You can fix it temporarily using a similar method in that thread, just stick a screwdriver into the selector beneath and you should be able to change gear enough to move your car and get it fixed properly. I ended up getting a poly bush made up so it wouldn't happen again...

the cable and its components might be broken.

I've checked and the cable is broken right at the end where it connects to the transmission. Trying to find a used one but no luck yet. Thanks for all the comments.
