Hi, New here. just a couple questions.

say your cruising, then you drop the pedal to the floor. How long does it take for your car to downshift and accelerate? This car takes approximately 1 second, Slightly long IMO. I took out the spark plugs and cleaned them up a little *she didn't have the money to replace them at the time* and it shortened the downshift time a little. it was horrible at first, varying from 3-5 seconds when your pinned the throttle for it to downshift.

and also, the steering is incredibly ruff. it's almost as bad as no power steering. but it's worse turning one way than the other.

I checked all fluids and whatnot, all checked out just fine.

and also to add, the owners husband has neglected this car horribly. She loves this car and want's it to be like new again. but I can't figure out the causes. she will be back in florida from georgia next month, so I'm trying to gather information to fix it up for her some more when she gets here.

Thank you all in advance.

Depending on the mileage, a complete tuneup maybe in order: plugs,o2 sensors and fresh fluids. The auto's respond well to a grounding kit as well. Most say it improves the shifting and response.

Thanks. I will do as much maintenance to the car as her money allows. this car still go's very well. I test drove it for her, and when it does decide to downshift it squats and hops and takes off very well. no shaking under hard braking. it is in dire need of new plugs, I'm definitely changing them when she comes back. again, Thank you very much. I'm only 15 so I'm no mechanic, always helps to have a more knowledgeable person give input.

Sorry for double post, but would You recommend a grounding kit? I've read around the site a little now and see allot are skeptical. :inout:

I would have to say this car is pretty bad in downshift time. right now it's getting about the same downshift time if not worse than my dad's 2006 dodge Truck. I personally think a Infiniti should have better response than a big ol truck.

On the auto, yes, manual transmission, no. Try doing a ecu reset and see what happens. Some swear it helps, especially on auto shift points.

mkay, any recomendations on which grounding kit to buy? I doubt she will get one, but I'm just tryin to gather as much info as possible. and I know I sound like a noob, but How would one go about resetting the ECU? again, just trying to gather as much info as possible, I would hate to tear up my aunt's car...well anymore than my uncle and grandpa have managed to.

Thank you, say you are at idle, and you quickly kick the throttle, it takes about a half a second or more for the engine to respond. would you say the ECU reset would help alot?

Again, Sorry for all of the stupid questions. like I said I'm only 15 and I am no mechanic. I just know a few things and I am basically clueless when it comes to all this electronic :bs:

Complete all the steps in the how to section and if that helps. Newer vehicles are drive by wire, which means that there isn't an instant response like the older throttle cable setups.

Well yeah I know That. but this is the first "drive by wire" vehicle I have ever driven *besides my buddy's tacoma, but I didn't even use the throttle*, so I don't really know the normal "response" of a "drive by wire" car.

hope that last comment didn't sound snappy or smart-assed. I will try the ECU reset and talk her into as much maintenance as I can for this car. Thank you very much for the information. and I apologize for all the stupid questions.

I've also read on NICOCLUB that an easy way to reset the ecu is to disconnect the battery but also make sure to step on the brake about 5 times to actually reset the ecu.

Is that as effective as using the procedure RED_DET posted?

I don't think she will mind that. Sounds allot easier than the other method.
