After all the work was done that I outlined in:

zerothread/210061

Everything is running great, now. No lights, no rough idle!

One thing I still notice is a slight "rattle" sound from the driver side front area. The sound almost sounds like "plastic" - and you cannot feel it in the drive train or the body of the car - it's a sound only. It only happens generally over smaller bumps at low speed that would typically cause a lot of vibration from the road.

I inspected under the car, wheel well, and under the hood. Under the hood I noticed that the "air intake" (not sure the official name) was disconnected from the air box that houses the air filter. It was also loose from the two screws that screw is down to the front of the car. The piece was definitely loose enough to potentially cause a rattle.

In absence of the real name, I'll describe the part. It's a complex looking plastic intake that has two paths, one that goes down towards the wheel well, and one that appears to be a cold ait intake that has an inlet just behind the grill of the car. It is also the piece that has what I assume us the manifold pressure sensor mounted to it. The sensor is labeled "Hitachi Boost Sensor" and is connected to a vacuum line that runs somewhere else. I assume it's mounted here just for a convenient mounting point.

This assembly was almost completely loose. The collar that slides over the union between the air filter box and the unit was slid all the way back, and the foam "gaskets" are all rotted and are garbage.

For now, I slid to collar back on, and duct tapped the hell out of it. I figured having the air got through this ductwork was important considering there is a sensor in there (air temp?). My questions are these:

1) What is this part called? I don't have a service manual yet.2) Can the foam gasket material be replaced? I sure hope I don't have to replace the air filter box and this intake just because the foam is rotted.

Thanks.

After some research, it seems the part in question is the "Intake Duct" - part #14 here:

http://www.trademotion.com/par...gid=2

The union in question is where part 14 and part 3, the "Air cleaner assembly, cover" connect together.

Is there any way to repair this union, since the foam gaskets are all shot and it's not a tight fit anymore? Is this the 1002nd use for duct tape? It is a duct, right?
