20's for my '12 EX

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Ok - been looking for wheels options. Only thing think i love is the 2011 F50 20's.

Here's my photoshop - althou I'm not very good. It's a direct fit, .3mm diffference in offset - but i have 15mm spacers anyway Found a set on Ebay. will put 275/40-20 on them for 1 inch taller and 1.3 inches wider. Less than 4% variance so won't have to recalibrate anything! I love that their stock!

Gonna sell my 19's to offset the cost.

Thoughts?

Just me and maybe I am getting too old, but me no likey.... kinda' ghetto.... I would rather have my OEM 17s that everyone has rather than those or any 20's. I like the OEM 19s MUCH more

I think it looks good! I am all for going a little larger to fill the wheel wells better than stock.

I would say DO IT if anything because I considered those very wheels but didn't want the rougher ride from the 20s.

I dont think they are ghetto looking if u stay with the painted look. Ur photoshops make them look chromed and THAT would be tacky looking on that fat of a spoke.

My boyfriend's neighbor has those wheels on a copper color FX35. It looks good too :yesnod but the whole SUV is just bigger all together than the EX.

I would hope u dont rub on the front suspension upright with a taller tire-wheel combo like that. Ur tire choice 275/40R20 is a bit large u would most likely be looking for something with lower than the 40 series profile. I have 275/40R19 on my rear. That exactly matches factory wheel-tire height.

I'm talking about this part at the top of the suspension. I dont know that much about whats going on back there and all the spacers and stuff but U might want to look into it with that big of a tire:

Thanks Kat! i have 15mm spacers on now...so that should apend any rubbing.

I would prob do a slightly lower profle tire...Continental Tire upsizer gives me choices of 245/45-20 (7.5-9.0 rim), 255/35-20 (8-10 rim) - or 265/45-20 (8.-10 rim).

The rims would be stock in color - not chrome. I'm in process of blacking out most of the chrome - so def no chrome wheels.

I really need to put the wheel on an axle to know if i'll even like it. My goal is to butch it up a little and fill the well a little - while preserving ride and some economy.

I've looked at about 1000 wheels and can't find any wheel i really love - so my other option is just put a 275/45/19 on these rims to fill lthe well and call it a day.

Your sizes are a bit off. My front is 245/45R19 for exact OEM rolling diameter
On a 20-inch wheel u should be looking at 245/40R20 (1mm taller than stock)

Not sure which tire sizing software u are using...

Here is the tire sizing software I use courtesy of my boyfriend http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

I'm using the same site- and i'm upsizing under 4% - hence the difference.

http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp?item=Wheel-Tire size comparer&sw1=245&ar1=45&bd1=19&rw1=8.5&et1=47&sw2=275&ar2=45&bd2=19&rw2=8.5&et2=47&text1=&text2=

My bad typing...265/40/20 on an 8 w/50 offset - 2.5% difference

255/35/20 on an 8wit 50 offset - 2.5% difference
245/45/20 on 8 with 50 offset- 3.5% difference

275/45/19 on 8 with 47 offset 4% difference 1" wider and 1" taller

I've never gone more than 4.5% difference in the past.

Well - I just bit the bullet and decided not to deal with 20's and relive a lot of headaches I had with my 2008 G35S sedan and my 2011 G37S coupe.

So i just upsized the tires to 275/45-19. Gives it a really nice foot print and the handling and grip is actually MUCH better. If feel much more planed with that extra 1" all around.

And it wasnt' that expensive either - i went with Pirelli P-Zero Rosso. I got such a great deal and they bought my tires with 700 miles on them, as well.

Love to see an image in the perspective like your photoshopped images above.

Looks better than those above / better in 'real-life'. :)

I think he stuck with the OEM 19s XIS...
They look very much like the 20s he wanted only with the split cut into the 5-star spoke.

Bummer on the 20s parkstr8r - but we all understand.
I think u could have made them work with the EX.
There is much more wheel well space than the G models.
My 19-inch Z wheels had smaller Z tires on them b4 I got the correct sizes.
So the EX uses a naturally taller tire.

New tires have a buffed and puffed up look with the rubber on the narrower wheels.

I think u succeeded with butching up the appearance.
Schzwartzeneggar would approve...:woot:

PS::: Another thing with the 20s - They would have made your brakes look teeny-tiny. :frown:
Although the FX I know with these wheels uses our exact same brakes.
Harder to notice though with the fatter spokes covering them.
I guess this might have driven the design too maybe.

I also got bored today so I wrapped my door handles in black. Super easy - took about 2 hours. As you can see I had the grill painted KH3 to match the car.

Now- the only project left is wrap the interior doors and center console pieces to match the lower part of the door- and put on a G37 sport muffler. Then I can just drive in peace for a while.

here's another site to use. While it doesn't give offset info like yours does, it gives good info about speedometer and odometer changes with tire size changes.

Hi, how much are you willing to sell your 19" oem rims? I've been looking to upgrade my 18" to 19"! Thanks!

The handles are relatively easy altho i'm no expert. The Eustacheons (end covers) come off easily.

0. buy black glossy 3m vinyl wrap
1. open door.
2. pull out plug on end of door.
3. you'll see a torx30 screw.
4. unscrew - it won't come out as there are holder to keep them from falling into the door
5. remove eustacheon
6. pull gently outward with the handle and it just pops out.
NOTE - the rears pop out completely - making them simple to wrap along with the eustacheons - the fronts are wired so you have to wrap them while still attached.
7. cut ad wrap the handles. Use a heat gun onthe lowest setting to manipulate the wrap - and then to set it.
8. Reverse the installation

it took about 1.5 hours on my first try. i did not do a perfect job - when i rdo them i will do ituch better. but it saved me 300 in having my shop do it.

That's about it.

I've kept the 19's - as you can see.

Update...well - i'm not really liking my 275/45- 19's at all. I think it's just a little too big and the ride i usually like is compromised. I will say traction is greatly improved. And I removed the 15mm Ichiba spacers - so now the wheels/tires are actually flush with the fenders.

I came acoss a set of used 2009 FX50S 20's as in the pic above...that are 98% perfect. And the guy selling didn't know what they are worth...so I got them for 750. Trying to decide on 245/5 -20" or 255/40-20. It's amazing how much cheaper 20" tires are than 19"s.

So here's hoping i like the look once on...if not - i'll just switch the out and make little $$ on the sale.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the tips on the vinyl job! Shops charge sooo much that it's worth trying some of the parts on your own.

Can't wait to see the 20's on! :)

Sorry to hear this.
Please provide more details... anything more than "the ride is compromised".
NOT good (or cheap) that u have to do this twice - thought u had everything all figured out? :tisk:
Is it that the tires were too wide for the wheels? I have my 275 rear tire on a 10inch wide wheel. A tire that is too wide will "roll-over" its sidewall during handling maneuvers (ur tire shop should have mentioned this to u. Ur on an 8-inch wheel width???)
Too tall for the fenders during big bumps or with passenger load?
Those would be my guesses.
Like I said before the 20s will look great on there :dblthumb:
Either way live and learn.

AND here she is all completed! I just need to put the 15mm spacers on to flush with wheels with the fenders.

I had the 20x8 FX wheels refinised in hypersilver - then put 245/45-20 rubber.

yeah!

Let me know what you think.
