I just got my oil changed at the NISSAN dealership for $20 (brought my own Royal Purple) and while I was there I had them do the 2* timing advance. It turns out that my timing was at 14*BTDC, they corrected it and then advanced it to 17*BTDC. Cost me $50.

My thoughts: since i switched from mobile 1 to RP it may be slightly due to the oil change as well, but it seems to have more "zip". I think that the advance in timing is definitely worth doing. Feels more responsive between the engine and transmission. Quicker off the line, more tire spin.

I'd recommend anybody who isn't using an engine management system to get this done. It feels like i'm driving a new car.

For $25-$50 buck I really don't think you can go wrong with this.

Tell me what your thoughts are after you get it done.

So fellas, Where would one with no G35 timing experience go to perform this cost effective mod? Would any auto shop have the technology, or could I do it with some sort of OBD2 type programming or something?

Thanks for always having something new to look into

Just got an appointment with my dealership to get my timing re-adjusted from 15 - 17 BTDC this coming weekend for free. We shall see when I get there if it is really free or just talk.

I did this at the dealership. They charged me half an hour of labor. All you need is someone that can communicate with the ECU via OBDII com port.

It wont help gas mileage. But it does increase throttle response and power. You have to run premium if you do this mod.

you basically need the cipher software. i basically found a guy on craigslist who had it and he just connected his laptop to my obdII port. it just takes a matter of minutes. First try searching on craigslist in your local area. if you cant find anyone, then any infiniti or nissan dealership should do this for you if your warranty is gone. If you still have warranty, they might not do it for you. gl

DONT RECET THE ECU ON THIS GUYS. the timing will go away when you do this.

Warranty should make no difference. The specified range for timing advance is max 17*, they can't put it any higher because the software will not allow for it.

This mod could give you better gas mileage as well, especially if your car is running rich.

glad to see you were able to experience the difference with the timing advance. its often hard to describe what the timing advance does but once you drive it you notice it right away.

Your gas mileage shouldn't be effected, except your now on the throttle more, in fact you should get better mileage as your running a higher AFR from the timing advance

Also resetting the ECU should not remove the timing advance. The only way it should go back to the default setting is if the system detects engine knock and retards the timing. which may also be the reason some people aren't even at 15 BTDC

if anyone is in the NY/NJ area I'm more then willing to meet up and do the timing advance for you.
