I have a deep hatred for JL audio, but to each their own.

I know a lot of people hate on JL. I always had respect for them, but they werent my favorite. ESX and MTX were my subs of choice.

Well this was about 3 years ago, I never had any trouble with them. My friend has 2 thunder 3000 10's that he has had for a long time they still sound good. I prefered ESX over MTX though, but their bastards about replacing stuff.

All I know is Sony XPLOD's BLOW CHUNKS! My friend's system crapped out In 6 months. But I've had a really good exp. w/ JL, so thats why I like them.

Oh how I hate sony car audio. Absolutly can't stand it. Last experience with them was a cd player that simply was he worst piece of **** I have ever put in a car. It had the knob volume, but it took forever to turn it up or down. Quite horrid indeed.

I have 2 solo baric Kicker S10L7s running on a Kicker KX600 amp. It hits pretty hard and it's very clean. It was a real pain to mount the box in a J30's trunk because the trunk dips in the middle and the gas tank sits right behind the rear seats. what I did was cut a piece of wood to lay flat in the trunk then mount the box onto that. All the wires are hidden underneath the wood which I later put this carpet **** to match the inside of the trunk. Underneath all the wires lays lots and lots of dynamat. That stuff helps the sound quality, you don't hear the trunk trying to jump off the car as much. As for the rear mirror mine does the same exact thing. I've learned to just lean back real far if I'm tryin to look in it.

Stereos kick ***, chicks love them. Me and my friends used to chill in the parking lot of my school because there was only 1 road out of the lot that takes an hour to sit in dead traffic on. Right after I installed everything I had a few girls come over and I told them to sit on my trunk. Turned the bass ALL the way up, drove them nuts. :D I was very popular after that day...

Oh, and Sony does suck. Yusually end up getting what you pay for and Sony is a very good example of this: it's both cheap in price, and poorly made. I mean, they sell the crap at the local Pep Boys by my house for christ sake! I had to drive all the way out to Glenview, IL to buy all my crap at the place called ABT electronics.

Oh, and by the way. I also use a Capacitor. I highly recommend this, it puts a lot less stress on your cars electrical system.

EBay > all for buying car audio equipment.

Put it this way - I used to work at a major electronics store. Our employee discount was that we got anything at cost + 5%. Now, the tube TV's, the computers, cd's and other media are only maybe 1-5% higher than cost. Where they make their money is computer accessories, cell phones and especially cell accessories, and CAR AUDIO.

I paid $85 for a Cerwin Vega 12D4 that retails at $200, another $40 for a ported box that normally costs $85, and my head unit was about 40% off retail.

Off topic, I also paid roughly $1-$5 for car chargers, cases, and faceplates that normally cost consumers $20-$30.

The moral to this story is - you'll save a TON of money if you buy through someone that is selling at a much lower markup - like a lot of business on EBay. If you don't care about getting a service warranty you can save over half your money...

The flip side is, the service plans are excellent because for my company they'd replace the sub for damn near anything except obvious abuse... weathering/cracking of the cone, normal failure of the driver, etc, they'd replace the sub probably 99% of the time.

Each way has its pro's and con's, but I figured you should at least be informed of how much over cost you're paying at large electronics stores.

I'll weigh in with the Old School (mid 80's) opinion...

HCCA Amps Kick Arse, Orion subs were added to help them fight the good fight against Rockford Fosgate and before PPI, MTX, Redline & JL joined the battle.

My guess is they woudn't still be selling subs (at above Pyramid pricing) it they weren't good.

I think a friend of mine in South Ga still has one of th original HCCA 90 watt amps, only 5 ever produced and Orion bought most of them back.

Good grief orion is old school. I only know of a couple people who ever ran them. They were really nice though.
