So last night I was on my way to go meet up with Phenom, Dangeris, Mattv609 and everyone for the Droptoberfest show. (5 hour drive for me) About an hour and a half into my drive on the highway doing about 60 my rpms go flying up and a ton of smoke comes pouring out of my car. I pull over and see a trail of what I'm guessing was transmission fluid and eventually a huge puddle of it under my car. This happens at 6pm. Tow truck gets there at 8:30 and tows me to the closest Nissan dealership. $130 tow. Now its 9:30 and I'm still an hour away from my school. My friend from school comes to pick me up and as I'm getting out of my car it starts to do really weird things, I get out and lock it and my headlights start to strobe on and off. My switch for my lights was off but then I keep locking it and eventually just one was on and then finally they all turned off. Basically my car is F'd. Oh and I didn't get home til 12:30. So much for going to droptoberfest.

Another example to not buy a CVT, this one didn't even need to be boosted to blow... :/ That f*** sucks man. I feel bad I really do. At least it's all under warranty right?

I understand that the neochrome rims aren't everyones favorite but this isn't a show off thread so i don't give a f*** what you think. My trans blew. thats what the thread is about. okay? for everyone who actually cares I have 58,000 miles on my car.

Do you drive your car abnormally or put unnessary load on it? Nuetral transmission drops to burn rubber? Seems weird for a transmission to blow with such low mileage....

Good luck though

Nah man. Never pull neutral drops or anything like that. I guess I drove it a little harder than Nissan expected the typical 2.5 altima cvt driver but I never did any racing or anything like that. Drove it in manual mode a decent amount cause of the mountain roads out here in west virginia but I didn't think manual mode would make it blow.

damn.. sorry about that diamond... what a s*** night... I would have never guessed in a 4 cylinder that the cvt's would die... i think nissan's R&D department slipped up with this whole cvt crap, they should have just used conventional transmission's like the infiniti line. my altima sedan has been down for the past two months, after replacing both front hub assemblies, i realized my rear shock bushing is busted and for some strange reason the replacement part does not exist in the nissan parts database..i had to find a salvage altima and purchase the entire knuckle assembly... I dont even bother with the dealership anymore because even when my car was stock they made complaints about fixing it, i just fix it myself now...The first chance i get, i'll get rid of this car.

lol, i do what i could at home... the dealer only seen it for warranty repairs, when they had to change mounts and the gearbox, even their 6speed has defects at least thats what they told me is the case with the pre august 07 manufactured models... I got some work cut out because i plan on runnin it until it can't move anymore. I might even turbo it and do my own standalone AEM ecu (pinning out each wire is gonna be lots of fun). In the process of doing this for a friend's car and it's time consuming. And who knows, maybe some LSD and motor build afterwards. But before all that i have to sign on that first time home buyer line because i'm officially a married man as of septemper 17th 2010... lol

So I just got a call from the Nissan dealership and apparently "the main power line for my subwoofer was laying over a control box for my transmission. The wire melted. Fried the computer and then my transmission blew." So now it's not under warranty. I hate dealerships. So now I have 2 12" Rockford Fosgate T1's and 2 MTX audio JH600 1200 peak watt 600 rms amps for sale.

OMG, dude, that sucks, I feel like s*** just hearing that. That's unreal.

What kind of wiring was it (gauge)? And where was this running through?

Go up there and ask them to show exactly the issue, there needs to be some proof of this. Take some pics for us.

It was a 4 gauge wiring kit that I had a professional place install. I would go but I am an hour away from the dealership and have no car to get there. I told them to send me pics at 11:30 today and still no pics at 4 oclock. The whole situation is real $hi**y

Well, it's worth it to find a ride there, pay someone, buy someone dinner, something to get there to see the situation in person. Maybe even take it to someone else to get a second opinion. The only issue with that is, if you leave the dealer then you might not be able to take it back. I'm still trying to place in my brain where the wire was running. Is this somewhere under the dash?

all those control boxes that are located in the interior arent they plastic? How would it ground on something that cannot conduct electricity. And if the box is outside and constructed of metal 99 percent sure its grounded. And if his power wire melted and is actually grounding off, it would create a load that will blow the fuse before causing any damage (assuming it is a fused power wire) Sounds like s*** to me... the dealer told me that they wouldn't warranty my gearbox because of abuse, i went to the dealer and asked them to show me the scorched flywheel and worn OEM clutch to indicate that i was beating on the car. and guess what, all of a sudden everything was covered under warranty. I canceled my extended warranty and suppose to receive a partial refund, guess what they forgot to send the check the last 3 times i called. Excellent customer service, by far the worst experience i've ever had, coming from two brand new acuras, a brand new subaru and my brand new trailblazer ss. Even chevy doesn't try to pull crap out of their a**. Sorry to hear you have to go through this crap diamond.

If it ends up that it was the wiring which fried the transmission then you'll want to go after the place that did the install on your subwoofer. they're responsible if the wiring wasn't properly attached and out of danger.

Thats my plan. I'm gonna try to get a ride up there tomorrow sometime between my classes and actually see what happened. Then contact sound of tristate(the shop that did it) and see if they will do something about it. The dealership is retarded they've told me 3 different things in the past two days. I dont think they are tryin to bs me I think they are just dumb. I'll keep everyone updated.

This is spot on. I think I read in the Droptoberfest thread that you were only running 2 600 watt amps? I really dont think thats enough power to fry a 4 gauge wire unless there were some serious wiring issues. I still would like to know where this control box is, I would think it would be somewhere down the centerline of the car and there is no reason said shop should have run a power wire that way, it would be more time consuming and tedious for them to install. Plus fuse issue, if it did contact the metal on this control box the fuse should have popped immediately. If this shop didnt install a fuse within 2 feet of the battery they shouldnt be in the business.

Either way, someone is full of it. Dealership taking nonsense or install shop with heads up rears. Sucks man...good luck.

How is an electrical problem on the transmission control module (TCM) gonna make your transmission bleed out? I would guess two separate issues 1) trans failure (mechanical problem) and 2) fried electronics.

This could be interesting because your installer might be on the hook for the electronics. :yesnod
