Here is another thing you might want to consider fighting the stealership on if they refuse to cover under warranty. Rather than the wire overheating and melting down into the control box frying out the electronics...reverse it.

transmission blows, control box overheats which melts the wire and not the other way around. Id take a close look at the inside of the wire and see if there is charring on the inside of the insulation. If not then it melted from the outside and didnt cause the issue. Even if no charring you should be able to see if it melted out or if it melted in. Dig?

Thank you CSI...

With my experience with the NYC dealers is that they're not networked. This means take your car out of there, remove any aftermarket stuff that would be questionable and take it to a different dealership. Then they have nothing to question or put blame except their wonderful, reliable idea of getting rid of the conventional 5speed auto and installing CVT's in everything (applause to nissan). Keep your guard up because i've been to 3 different dealerships and they have all tried to blame something on my driving habits as to why it's not warranty. I also had a friend's ignition relay burn out and they tried to blame it on his HID kit, all i had to do was print out some electrical schematics of the car and asked the tech and service manager to show me where the headlight harness would be linked to the ignition system on the diagrams and remarkably ALL OF A SUDDEN it was covered under warranty. Little did they know that i'm a former aircraft and auto mechanic. Good luck Diamond.

Yup, Sorry my computer has been busted for the past few days. I got my car back last Wednesday. The company (Sounds of Tristate) that installed my subwoofers never mounted the fuse casing inside the engine bay. The casing basically melted and the wire which still had a charge from the capacitor fell onto the transmission mount and this sent way to much power to my tcm( trans control module) which blew some seals and then it tried to shift through all the gears and that blew a hugh hole in side of it. So I got the transmission installed and now its back in my driveway. Just need to decide where to go to re-install my subwoofer.

OK so fuse, but way overrated fuse than your system required....Either way a botched install..

Wow, i cannot believe the direction that went in. I wanted to get a professional install on a stereo system, but after an instance like this with all the new components in our cars, I may not.

I think it is the shops fault, and you should begin the processes of a lawsuit only for the repairs of the car due to the equipment failing and damaging a component on your vehicle along with some type of install defect that was directly fault of the installer based on general vehicle knowledge. Especially if the company advertises something like that with their work.

.. so the CVT was actually fine, the subwoofer install was the problem

Exactly. Nothing was wrong with it until the subwoofer power line touched it. Then just about everything was wrong with it.

I guess the 2.5 CVT is cheaper than the 3.5?

Any electrical damage/shorts will cause problems with both of them. God only knows what actually got fried or ruined.

Both CVTs are s***, but yeah the 2.5 CVT I agree is way worse than the 3.5... lol

Wow man...that shop is full of dolts. Why would they put the fuse anywhere near the transmission? It should be mounted within 18" of the battery, thats basic audio tech knowledge. Even if they didnt mount it, how was there enough slack on the cable to fall down that far? I mean, Im sure there is a contact point that could have been within reach on a long shot, but damn! Too hit and drain your entire cap into it it had to contact and stay there, not just brush it.

Christ man you are so lucky. When I was in electrical training my professor did a demonstration with a tiny capacitor to show just how much power they could hold. I dont even remember how many farads but it was about 1/8 of the size of a standard 1 farad car cap. He charged it , then shorted it onto a metal plate. The freakin thing popped like lightning and WELDED ITSELF to the metal. You could have been blown to pieces man!
