hey guys,

I just got back from ATCO speedway about 4 hours ago and it was my first time racing. My car is totally stock except for Apex'i dual N1 and Catco Cat. I managed a 17.562 seconds for the quarter mile with one wheel spinning the whole way out of the start (I NEED AN LSD!!! :) ). Is this any good?

O yeah i had skinny a$$ 195 tires on too.

I lost to a ford pickup truck (one of those lightning thingys) :owned

good job...

A good tip for starting is to "go on yellow" Which means, begin your launch on the last yellow, it will get you amazing reaction times.

that doesn't help you quarter mile times. my reaction time sucked too, thats just because i only had time for one run and i didn't want to red light and go wait another hour in line to get back on the strip.

EDIT: your quarter mile times start after you leave the line. the light can turn green and i could have sat there for 5 seconds and left and still gotten the same time

j-spec , i wasnt putting you down. You guys took that the wrong way. I was just saying your CAR should be hitting 16's. props to you for even getting out there and giving it a shot.

yeah i know. my car definatly SHOULD be getting those times because its one lof the lightest 240sx models. but like i said, the start really killed me. i went about 60 feet with one tire spinning and when i went into 2nd gear, i still had some traction problems.

My best time was a 16.12. Don't worry about loosing to a SVT Lightening. Just practice and race against your best time.

good job man. it scary gettin out there your first time. i kno i was scared. but once i lined up and the tree started goin down, every other thought in the world left my mind. when i'm racing, i concentrate on NOTHING BUT racing. kudos.

edit: oh yea, i feel your pain about not havin an LSD. my '95 SE didnt' come w/ ABS, hence no LSD. :(

ya man thats not bad for your first time. After going a couple times I ended up cutting a second off my time. It takes time to learn the car and the launch and all. Just keep practicing

J spec tuner,Dont feel bad lol... your first time was alot better than one of my friends.... haha... First time he raced he stalled the car 3 secs after the green light... and car wouldnt start again.... so we had to push it off the track.... in front of 3047293274932 people....

That ended his racing career... hahahaha i was in passenger seat... lol.. couldnt stop laughing.

What was your trap speed? I ran two 17's with lots of wheelspin (let off the gas, hit it again, and the it would still spin. then just shifted to second) and a couple of 15.4's all with 90-91 mph trap speeds. What was your 60' time?

How do you launch? If you just rev up and then dump the clutch and floor it that could be your problem. All that will happen is that you will burn out untill you get traction while your rpms are dropping. Try reving up and then dump the clutch while feathering the gas, that what i do and i get alot of people saying i have a nice launch. Just try to launch with out letting your rpms drop.

ATCO has been open since the begining of january but they kept canceling every sunday because of bad weather, until this sunday.

Solid: i droped the clutch at about 2500rpm's one wheel went-a-spinnin' so i let off the gas, tryed it again, and just got more wheel spin.

Piratepete: my 60' time was 2.963. what happened to you is exactly what happend to me.

i was up at 84.50 mph at the end. my reaction time was 1.270 :squint

With an 84.5, you'll get a 16.2-16.3 with good launching and shifting. Track is a hell of a lot slippier than the street though.

You guys need to stop going through the burnout water, go around it. Even with crapy small tires and an open diff. you guys should have more traction then that.

there was at least 100-120 cars using the track and by the time i got out there the track was well used.... there was little chunks of rubber everywhere.

Piratepete: my shifting was on the spot, my launch just flat out sucked.

Im still going to invest in an LSD and also some fat rear wheels and tires.
