I have a 1995 Q45a with 148K miles. The car is great. The big problem is with the active shocks, they are blown.Looking for ideas on fixing, refitting with standard shocks or a fair selling price as is.Any ideas????

Call or email Keith Bowers before you do anything else. He's the country's foremost Q45a guru and can tell you exactly what it would take to restore your active.

Please don't convert it.

I'd normally be more circumspect about posting people's email addys and phone numbers, but Keith openly posted both of them here a few months back.

My apologies to Keith if it causes him any trouble.

What kind of condition is the car in otherwise? and when you say the active struts are blown, how do you mean. Does the car bounce everywhere? or is it really stiff?

The car is still very stiff with a 4x4 type ride. I guess if you were to go over several bumps in a row it would be very bouncy.

make sure your active fluid is FULL and then replace your accumulators... if the system leaks, add a little marvel mystery oil!

Man that active ride is alot work of work to maintain. That God for the guys lurking around on nico to make life a little easier.

Has any worked hooked up a controller to the active system like they have for air suspensions?

I got a reply from Keith, thanks you guys are great. I am not sure I can afford to fix the active. I know thats a big foul here. Is there any interested parties willing to buy the car and fix this type of issue?

Guessing that the basic active repair might be $3,000 [$200 x9 plus labor]and the other nomal things wrong with a 12 year old car with 150k [usually $3,000 over the next year].Pretty difficult to sell a flat Q45a to anyone who understands the product.

Been there, done that, and still spending strong. In my case over $6000 in repairs (lost count...it's depressing) and I had my car for only14 months so far and have put 8000 miles on it and my car has full service history from the dealer.
