yeah some cars were obd2 in 93 it was only mandated by the government that all had to be in 96. my 95 (production year 94) zenki is in fact obd2. not obd2 ready. obd2. i promise i'm not a 16yo retard out to prove anyone wrong or myself right but i've used a scanner on my car.... an obd2 scanner. and i do happen to be employed by a service center and i've been a mechanic for some years now so really i'm sure of it. 95+ 240sx's are obd2. All them

Ok.... but the question really is, will ALL '95 240's have to conform to obd2 emissions standards? Or will some be obd1 and others obd2? WTF!?!?!

no a 95 will not fall under obd 2 emissions .. 95 dose not have to be tested under obd2 emissions whether it is obd 2 or not .. they all fall under the sniffer emissions ..

So what this all boils down to is this:1) 1995 240's are obd2 compliant BUT...2) 1995 240's only have to have a sniffer test to pass emissions

Then why didn't anyone else say it in simple terms? LOL I know I'm dense. I just like black and white answers.

Wow. I'm just glad that in VA, at least where I live, ALL cars just go by the sniffer. OBD1 and OBD ll.

I am an state inspector for MA and all vehicles 96 and newer are obd2 and 95 and older are obd1 no matter if you have a obd2 port on the 95's. The computer will see that it is a 95 car and it will have to have a sniffer test to past emissions.

Will putting the LS1 in throw a CEL? If it does you failed right off the bat.

I know this thread is kinda old but I just wanted to let everyone know that was still wondering... The car passed NJ state inspection and emissions test today. No problems (still stock) and it's definitely an OBD1 vehicle. I had a little talk with the tech at the garage and he said, if it's '95 or older, it's OBD1 end of story. It has to pass the tail pipe test but that's it. Time for an LS1.

It's crazy that it took 2 pages to come to the obd1 or obd2 answer.

All s14's manufactured after July 95 are considered '96 models and therefore are OBD2. Mine came out in Sept 95, so its OBD2. If you have an OBD1 Zenki you are super lucky cuz they were only made for a few months...

You can find out the manufacture date of your Zenki with the VIN and Carfax...

It all depends on the model year. If it's a 1995 it's OBD1 regardless of build date.

Again, it doesn't matter. If your car is a 1995 240sx the DMV is gonna do the emissions test according to OBD1 standards. If it's a 1996, it's gonna be OBD2. No matter what color your plugs are, how many o2 sensors you have, what your build date is etc, etc. It goes by model year.

Weird i stumbled upon this thread. My car was made in 3/94 and is obd1 for sure. My brothers 95 eclipse was made somewhere in 6/94(if i remember right) and his car is strictly obd2 but exempt from emmissions in illinois because they stopped testing 95&older like 3 years ago.

Funny side story my bro had a cel and he went to an autozone and asked to borrow the obd2 reader and when the guy asked him what year his car was the guy in the store argued with him for like 10 min on how his car was obd1. But the guy wouldnt go out to check his car. I think that guy needs to read this thread.

What is with all these old threads lately. No you can not use a 95 ecu in a 96 to pass emissions. Anything made as a 96 year model or up has an obd2 system. Using a 95 ecu would probably throw a check engine light itself.

If your car was made before 7/95 it is obd1 anything after will be marked as a 96 year model(obd2). /thread

yeah i'm looking for a 95 with that manufacturing date. if i don't i'm stuck with the 96 and would try and build a ka-t and run low boost and hopefully pass emissions and keep all the dash warning lights from coming on
