Yes, any help would be greatly appreciated. I posted a couple of requests in classifieds, but no response yet. Please let me know ASAP and I will drop my pan to do the final check and then order the part....

You must be Goodie. Pleased to meet you both! Yessir, I have ohm tested the rev and turbine rev sensor, self diagnostic, and read posts. My prob is not intermittant, no "trans malfunction" light or anything. The turbine rev sensor ohmed at around 1900 ohms (spec 2000-2200) and the rev sensor was in spec. From what I've read a sensor prob was more than likely intermittant. Mine just started to fail slowly until one day it was just stuck there. The face that I had to rev it high to get it into forth and then both gears failed at once is strange. Those solenoids did not click when the 12v was applied and its an old car, so they are to blame for the moment. My other sensors seem to be in good shape. I am kinda speculative of the TCU. I am hoping that this is not a mechanical issue.....

Is there a seperate solenoid for reverse. Mine wont go into reverse its just like neutral, reverse lights and everything work but no reverse gear. I havnt checked anything other then changing the trans fluid because I am going to go 5sp in the next couple of months so I dont want to spend money on the auto but if its an easy fix then I would be willing too. Any ideas on my case?

I do not believe so. The solenoids are strange. I think 1st and 2nd gear do not require a solenoid response, but 3rd and 4th are A on B off, b off A on, its simple, something like that. If you are not going into reverse, It could be a linkage problem. But if you put it in gear and it straight up slips, it could be a gonner. Please see the service manual for a self diagnosis/troubleshoot. I think I saw a troubleshoot for no reverse in the AT section. Its easy to do, and its a place to start.

I am about to just buy news ones. I have had too many bad experiences buying used electrical parts for this car! I just hope it works. I need to win a few more p0ker tourneys and do some more research before I drop the pan, run 12 volts again, re ohm everything, pray etc. I will do an INTENSE check before I drop the dough and the drum roll starts. :ohno:

Not too many places carry those solenoids, but 300+ is the norm (about 330 from Joe). Not to mention the filters per Heath, gaskets per Lokim, bolts and all the beer its gonna take to get me through this.

I finally made contact with the guy about the 94a -- he doesn't want to part it out -- just sell the whole car as a parts car since it doesn't run..

Does anybody have a good source for Mobil 1 ATF? The best deal around here is around $8 per quart.

I just put Wolf's Head Universal Synthetic ATF in my Q, and it works GREAT! It meets almost every transmission fluid spec, and uses a good Group III synthetic base oil.
See the compatibility list here: http://www.wolfshead.com/specsheets/uni ... thetic.pdf

I pay a bit over $4/qt (I work at a shop), and I think retail is less than $7/qt. Check it out...

I found a set, brand new, all 4 for 108 delivered!!!!!!!!!!! :woot:

They are made by "NTP" and are not aftermarket. Cocking the hammer back now..... :bigthumb:

I am thinking about buying the whole sha bang from this place. Any comment on a "Auto Zone type" internal filter. I am planning on going with a magnafine for the external.

I see NTP often referenced with Jatco transmissions in search results. Not sure about the abbreviation. Could be Nippon Transmission Parts? I've been waiting now 5 weeks for an OEM external filter. It might deliver after 45 days.

The filter is basically just a screen, so as long as the pan gasket feels like a quality part it ought to be fine. The external filter is the one you need to worry about. I am running a Magnafine and it seems to do a great job...

P.S. Good find on the solenoids! I'm sure the other members would appreciate a link to the page you found them on in case they need a set, (hint, hint).

I most definately will devulge the site info, but not until I get the solenoids first. I still gotta drop my pan and check to see if I can use those bolts again. I also have to double check the solenoids and the magnets in the pan to rule out any mechanical malfunction. It's still gonna be about 150$. Once I drop the pan, my Q will be down. That car has yet to strand me anywhere. She will be missed while I am waiting for parts.

I just noticed that when I put my car in Reverse (broken gear) that the locking button doesnt return it just stays down like I am pushing it with my thumb. Could this mean some linkage problem or is this common on reverse all other gears it returns.
thanks

Get all 4 wheels off the ground, unbolt the linkage, start the car, and shift it into reverse by hand. If the wheels rotate in reverse, just readjust the linkage and off you go!

Ok, I place the order today from www.bulkpart.com. They had the internal filter for 6 bucks. I got the magnefine for 16. Should I use RTV on the pan gasket? If so, what kind? Thanks again guys. I am a little nervous. I hope it pans out. No pun intended.

GET THE GASKET AND DO NOT USE RTV!!! Just make sure everything is clean and the pan rails are straight, and torque the pan bolts to spec.

When you drop the vb, there will be a spring or two that comes out with it (they go into the servo pistons along the drivers side (assuming you are doing in situ, with pan drop only--trans stays in car). make sure you put them back in correct order.
also, your problem may be bad solenoids, but may also be that the high clutch is gone.

I am afraid of that. Those clutches that is,but the solenoids did not click and ohmed high. Revving high to get into od and then they both fail?? Pressure is the key, I hope...I have everything cept a torque wrench (auto zone rental) and the valve body gasket. 150$ shot at it will be worth it. I hope this thing is in and out my garage in 4 hours........ :ohno:

Thanks for the advice. I will be watching for the springs, gremlins and the monkey with the hand grenade waiting to piss in my cheerios. :gapteeth:

If you have a Harbor Freight and Tool store near you, they have very inexpensive torque wrenches and you can usually find 20% off coupon.

I would have to imagine that it would end up being cheaper than renting.

Auto Zone asks for a deposit, but you get it back when you return it, but thanks for the suggestion! :bigthumb:

I got this torque wrench and I really dont understand it. Please advise the torque settings for the pan bolts and the valve body screws. I am almost ready to do the deed, I just dont understand the service manual's torque specs... :ohno:

Torque wrenches come in a variety of styles. Could you describe what you have so we can give proper instructions.

It is a 3/8 drive and it is rated in "inch pounds" and "m. kgs." There are numbers on the handle, "0,2,4,6,8" that spin around the handle and a lock screw on the bottom. The service manual kinda goes wild with those numbers, but they kinda resemble the "m. kgs" settings. Thanks for the help! I should get er done this week.
