"That is should I look for one that has maybe 120-150k on it but has been much better taken care of?"

doubtful such animal exists ... for sale .....

lol, I guess the fact that many people on this site have cars with 150k + in good condition is not really representative of the Qs for sale out there in the real world! I should have thought of that...

So... if such mythical beasts do not roam the streets(with for sale signs), does this Q sound like a good deal if I can get it for under $4k?

I think in this quest - extreme patience and knowledge will be requisite. I dont think you have enough info about that car yet to buy for $4k. At least, with the limited knowledge ive picked up here so far, I wouldnt go for it. If what you posted is the extent of the service records - even for only 90k ... lots o questions left unanswered.

This may be out of your price range based on the asking price of what you've looked at, but it's one to consider. Seems to have had some work done by one of the respected mechanics mentioned numerous times on this forum.

Most people wont sell a 94 for that cheap.......

I think your getting a pretty good deal...... Or maybe I was just a sucker...... Id say go for it.... Doubtful you will find another car with that many new parts with that low miles for the price.......

BTW-- Wrichey and eQlipse..... Are you guys planning on coming to the oct.11 meet, here in central indiana??

Guess I need to visit the NICO Meets forum more often. I missed the last one & I'll actually be in Bloomington for a reunion @ IU that weekend.

well, the service manager I was talking to called me back and priced each part for parts/labor:

upper links: $245 eachknock sensors: $980ps hoses: $900fuel filter: $170tension rods: $468 for front 2trans flush: $160valve cover gaskets: $1150spark plugs: $710total (if done separately, done together would be less since some time can be put together): $5208

do these prices seem about right? This quote is much higher than Q45tech estimated, is that lower price est. due to combination of time?

How much of a competent DIYer are you?? Spark plugs, valve covers, and KS can all be lumped into one job....... That would save some labor......

Q45tech gets his parts at a discounted rate (conincedentally the same prices we get from joe)...... And if you DIY, you will savew a ton........

Id say if you DIYd youd save about 3000......... One thing you didnt include was changing of the diff fluid......

170 for a fuel filter?? That better include a rail flush and a PBT..... Its a $10 part, and its super easy to do!!!

When you had it inspeced, they did a consult test, right???? I think if you posted the results, we can get you up and going for much less.......

Hell, you get the car, come to my place and ill help you do some stuff...... Most of that stuff ive done (minus the suspension stuff and valve covers, but those can be done with plugs)....... I can do everything on that list (minus the trans flush)..... And im only a few minutes away!!!

havent had it inspected yet, have an appointment on Fri to head for Chi.

I havent had to do much DIY work with the cars I've had (and I just moved here from Bloomington where I had a 30 year family mechanic) but I'm a quick learner, I would definately appreciate your help if I get the car!

What I listed were the things they told me the previous owner declined to do when the dealer mechanic was inspecting it for the 90k service, they told me he just did a 15k service at the time.

Maybe when details are worked out on the meet I could swing through Indy that weekend.

I wouldn't trust the '90 to make it. It's become more of a project for me. In fact unless I don't find the FSM I may buy the one you have. How much are you asking?

A quick search on Autgotrader found a few. This one is at Highland Park Volvo in IL. They're asking $5995 for a 94 black on black with 91K. Not a bad starting price.

I'm partial to the black on black 94's, but honestly would look for a silver or white if I had it to do over again.

I had to read this twice before I could believe it. Case in point--upper links are about $100 each from http://www.infinitipartsusa.com and only take 10-15 minutes each to install.

I'll state that if you DIY and if you get your parts from Joe, you will save between $4-5k over what your dealer wants.

Hi, I'm an IDIOT.

Was just washing dishes and thought ... hmmmmmm, I wonder if the 94 with 91K he's looking at (for $5995) is .... dang I just told him to look at a car he's already looking at. I thought the WWW was supposed to be huge, how'd 2 guys stumble across the same car.

I say get the car....... These cars are becoming very few and far between........

OH YEAH!! I just remembered.... Theres a 95Q for sale in indy, I believe.......

Goto http://www.us.trader.com and do a search........ I remember it looking nice...... Its been for sale for a while!! But I'd take the black.....! When I was looking for a Q, my top colors were dark blue, black and dark red, and I wanted dark red the most!! I consider myself lucky.......

I'm pretty sure I already called about the 4700 one... but not positive, guy I called said it sold already.

I've been looking for a bit and that one has been in the local paper, etc for a while.

So I'm going to have the car inspected tomorrow, Wes you mentioned having a consult reading done, I've looked for other posts about this but couldn't find anything that said what codes mean (i'm assuming this will bring up codes of some sort).

Also I'm having a pre-buy inspection done, is there anything important that an inspection of this nature won't look at? maybe both stupid questions but....

Here's a page with Infiniti mis-spelled, but I've been told the codes are accurate. See the Infiniti Online Mechanic Forum to the left <---

http://www.troublecodes.net/infinity

I've made an html doc I could send for easier reference in case they ever shut down their site.

The consult wont bring up codes like 21 or 34, it will bring up and say something like "knock sensor circuit bad" or something like that....... Its much more specific........

Running a consult WILL check the ECU codes!! Less work...... If their a competent dealer, they will do it anyway....... Just make sure they do it, and tell you the results...
