Very nice Researching for a 69 Camaro Rear Mount turbo project. Luckily I have an Underwater Welder to help, and a reasonable budget now! I had two other people check this thread out also. Anybody with experience building remote turbos at all in the Va Beach area?

I personally don't know of anyone in your area that knows. What do you need to know about? There's not much you can't find out from the internet and probably not much I couldn't help you with. I read and taught myself all I could for about 2 years before I dove into my project.

Now I'm obviously a believer in rear mount turbo's but I'm trying to figure out why you'd want to do it in a '69 Camaro? Don't you have tons of room under the hood? I believe there are a few benefits of a rear mount that may justify it for some people anyway like lower under hood temps but what is your reason?

I've been posting a few new additions to the turbo Q on another thread but I figured it would be a better idea to keep this one complete for anyone researching this project.

Recent upgrades include-Suspension- Cali Customs springs and Tokico shocks, rear "A" model sway bar, and adjustable front tension rods.-I did a full plenum job, with knock sensors, valve cover gaskets, hoses, etc.-Installed a 4.08 rear diff-Methanol Injection installed.-Many misc. parts repaired/replaced.

ECU Tuning has been going really well and boost is up to 8 psi and have been doing a little testing at 9-10 psi. Injectors and MAF are pretty much maxed at those levels so I need to be careful. A MAF mod and increased fuel pressure are on the to-do list.

Current projects are a front mount intercooler and a transmission cooler.

FMIC is underway, here are a few photos

Hey if you wouldn't mind, Can you tell me how much you have spent on just turbo charging your Q? And was it worth it?

Nice looking. Did you fabricate or is it someone's standard cooler?

I'd guess $2500-3000 on the turbo but I could be way off. Maybe at the end of this stage of upgrades I'll go through it and make a bill of materials. I've purchased so much stuff and not all of it got used.

The IC is an E-Bay special, I had a specific size I wanted and this one fit the bill. And for $100 plus shipping it's worth a try. As long as it doesn't leak I'm happy. If it does I'll just break out the TIG and weld it up. As far as clearance I think I'll actually have more than I have had. My old compressor tube under the motor would hit often. I'm redoing that section and it will be about 1 to 1.5" higher than before in the area where it would scrape. The tube that routes behind the IC could be an issue. Not too big of a deal, I purposely made all these sections easily replaceable so when I hit them bad enough I can change them out.

Got the intercooler installed. I think it turned out great. The size was perfect for the Q45. I made new plumbing under the motor and gained about 1.5" of clearance.

Gave it a test drive and everything seems to be working pretty good. One issue is the ABS. With the 4.08 rear diff I apparently need to address the ABS. Anyone know what I need to do about that? I'll make a new post specifically about that. Now on the to the good stuff...

Here are some (a lot) photos. Shows all the intercooler plumbing and tubing under the motor. Also some pics showing the new stance with the cali customs springs/Tokico's.

Man, I gotta say that is a very nice install. Did you put a bracket on the bottom too? The only thing I would have done differently would have been to keep the top of the intercooler as is.

Now, you've got to do some new vids with the intercooler. I should warn you that I've been driving my Turbo Q for the last few days and I feel the need to up the boost to 8 psi. I'm aiming for a 9 sec. 0-100 time but don't know if it is possible at this time of year. This hot weather is killing the fun out of boosting.

I was just reading through this post again because it has been brought back from the dead! I saw there was a Larry from some Denton, TX shop asking questions. Did you ever call him? As you know I live and work in Denton. I know a few shop owners but I don't know this guy. I only know of 2 transmission specific shops here and I know the owner of one. The other is Eagle Transmission. Unless, he was the guy that owned 24HR Auto Repair. They ALWAYS have Nissan/Infinitis sitting out there; including a white G50 President or look-a-like.

The other thing about that shop was that the owner was arrested earlier this year for some kind of felony. I thought it had to do with them receiving stolen cars or parts from cars or something like that. Just wondering if this was the guy.

Which video are you referring to? I have posted a few on Streetfire and Youtube. Nothing very recent. I think all of them are linked to from this thread.

Thought I'd be doing the dyno soon but it only cooled off for a week and now it's back in the 90's. Soon as it gets down in the 70-80's I want to get the dyno done to see my official results.

It's still running strong. I know there is more tuning to do but I haven't been to interested in doing it when it's so hot. Hopefully it will finally cool off, it's October for crying out loud.

Never did call that guy in Denton.

Yes, did this entire install myself in my garage including the welding. Thanks for the props! There are some areas that I should redo but overall I am proud of it. It has been and continues to be a fun project.

Cars been down for maintenance for a few months. Got it back on the road again today and wow. Still as fun as the first time, maybe better! Had some fun with it this afternoon so we made a "ripper" video...enjoy!

Installed:B&M Trans cooler (photo below)All new beltsNew radiator

Trans cooler. I installed it basically like I recall Wes doing his. Worked out nicely.

Smells like rubber!

If I understand your question...I purchased another Q45 a while back that was broke down and it had this rear diff in it. It's a 4.083 not a 4.10.

It was a 94 but that is irrelevant. It is an aftermarket unit built by UniTrax. I've checked with them and it's no longer available. The parts they used to use have been discontinued.

Well, I'm considering selling this 4.08 sometime down the road. I haven't decided yet but I think I liked the powerband better with the stock rear end with the turbo. I'll post on here if I decide to sell.

One note on this unit, your ABS may or may not work. You may need to change the sensor "gears" to make it work with your system. My ABS does not work at the moment.

Thats and the odometer will also be off a bit, Thats why high hear ratio rear ends are only good for track cars or cars that a built for them.

If the speedo is off it's not off by much. I've changed the speedo gear so it's pretty darn close. I've clocked it with a stopwatch as well as GPS and I'm not sure I could get it any better.

Mind sharing?

Was it custom made by you or off a car?

My speedo gear was taken from the donor car I got the rear end from. You can also get them from Joe at Infiniti of Scottsale. The larger speedo gear was a tight fit but I worked and did the trick.

Some research will show that a J30 speedo gear will get you very close.

I've honestly found that it's not even really worth the effort to swap speedo gears. 15% is very easy to calculate in your head and works out to fairly close to 10mph exaggerated at most highway speeds. 75 is 64, 90 is 77, 100 is 85, 65 is 56. Works out quite nicely.

$15 and 10 mins to change isnt worth having an accurate speedo??

Well, maybe I worded that slightly wrong, but kind of.I don't mean that the time and cost are too great to be worth it.I just don't find the inaccurate speedo to be a big deal. I've gotten used to it. Don't even think about it, really. 2nd nature. If I had the part I'd do it, I just don't feel any great need to fix it.

I think the point I was trying to make is that you shouldn't let the speedo issue scare you away from running a 4.08.
