Okay, I took it upon myself to change all the cracked vacuum lines I found under the hood, and I found two of these were not hooked up to anything.
I need to pass MD's very strict emissions, so these lines need to be ran perfect for when it goes into the shop.
Please don't reply "you don't need that ish" or anything silly like that.

Image

The line on top is connected between the vacuum motor on the intake pipe that leads out to the front of the vehicle and the ATC temp sensor. The other line just hangs from the temp sensor and was broken. The last one goes to an open hole inside the air cleaner area just below the temp sensor, as shown in the photo:

Image

What should the two that are broken be connected to and where is said device located please?

The z24 and the z24i aren't too different... hope this helps vacuum-line-placement-1986-z24-gas-motor-t530372.html

Ant beat me to it. That's the best z24 vac line thread anywhere in the world he linked there.

Though I appreciate the help, It's different enough to make me scratch my head, because "vac line A", as you referred to it in your thread, doesn't have the curved fitting anywhere on my motor, and the last line I was asking about isn't even on the carbed version.

I suspect that my version of "vac line A" runs to a nipple just after the mixture heater on the intake according to page EF&EC 9 (which i need to find on the motor) and that the other line that doesn't exist in your thread may run to the EGR control solenoid valve (which I also need to find on the motor) because the big vacuum line that goes to the anti backfire device is right out...

I have been trying to score a 1986 FSM for this very reason. It's a change over year and my 85 FSM doesn't touch the topic.

You, sir, rock the forum. Image

Also, I found an 86 at the junkyard today and got some of the other lines I was needing to find, someone hooked EVERYTHING up the wrong way on mine...
I was also missing my charcoal canister and the PAIR valve thingy, everything was all hooked up like someone was guessing, ugh.
I hate Maryland emissions, if I they didn't care so much about this crap I wouldn't even bother... It looks like I will have to replace the whole exhaust as well because of the little hose that comes off the catalytic..

Can you take some pics of how the charcoal canister is hooked up please? Thanks a bunch!

I found this one that helped me with mine. It's a bit tricky to follow but it's all I have.

Ok heres the canister...
Image

The hose coming out of the bottom goes to a hole in front of the canister....
Image

The hose closest to the camera connects down there to a metal line.... it looks like a brake line and it also runs with the brake lines... I'm pretty sure that one goes to the fuel tank!!
Image

The other two lines go towards and under the distributor....
Image

....they connect to metal lines near the distributor and then go over the water pump.....
Image

...after the water pump they go back to rubber hoses... the bigger hose hooks up here....
Image

...the small hose splits and one end hooks up here and the other I'm not sure... I didn't look!! Let me know if you need to know where that one hooks up!!
Image

Hope this helps!!

I need to know where the other end of that hose hooks up please, the one that tees from the small charcoal canister hose on the left side of the engine!

I'm in the middle of it right now and could really use the help!

Dattebayo this is a diagram I bookmarked some time back and should answer your question. If you still need help I will take pics. Its halfway down the post.

Honestly, I don't know what the little scribbles in the diagram are supposed to be since they look nothing like what is actually under the hood, I was hoping for pictures so I can actually see what is hooked up.

Keep in mind ours is an 89

The small line that goes from the vacuum control here and runs under the distributor
Image

runs up to the vacuum control here then from the rt. of the control
Image

to the right port here on the intake. The u shaped line runs to the back of the air cleaner.

A few more pics.

This is the one that goes to the back underneath side of the air cleaner.

The line that runs across the water pump closest to the block hooks up to the center
of the metal vacuum 5 port mounted to the air cleaner. Hope it helps.

Thanks!

Also, can you show me what the exhaust connections are for the device circled on the left of this picture?
Image
Also, I have an extra hose connection on the device circled on the right. It comes out of the left of whatever the hell that is. Does anyone know anything about that?

The AIV circled on the rt has a hose that runs to the front port on the contraption circled on the left, the rear port or lower has a rubber hose that connects to a metal pipe that runs along the exhaust manifold and then into the rear of the exhaust manifold that is shown in the pic. of the manifold. It is almost touching the dipstick and is a little bigger than your finger and threds into the back of the exhaust manifold.

The AIV has a filter in it and will collect moisture and it is not uncommon to hear it gurgle when running. I pulled that one out of a wreck in NC that does emissions testing, ours had rusted out the bottom.

I am not sure of your designation of front vs. rear ports when talking about the device on the left. Please help?

This is the pipe that connects to the back of the manifold and hooks up to a rubber and then to the bottom port on the item you circled on the left, my finger shows where they change from metal to rubber.

Here is where the vacuum line is run on the back of the AIV (air induction valve)

I am going to sleep, working 3rd but I will have my son check tonight and see if you need anything else. Sure hope this gets you where you need to be.

The contraption on the left has an upper (front port) and a rear (Lower port) the upper goes to the AIV and lower to the metal pipe going into the manifold.

It sure does help, thanks a whole lot.

I have an extra pipe that goes down under the cab, though. I guess it hooks up to the extra port on the other side of the big black AIV thing you were talking about... (my AIV looks different)

look at the pic of my exhaust manifold, there is another metal threaded pipe on top and it runs along the firewall to the pass side and then to a vacuum device I will shoot a pic. give me a min.

My AIV only has one port and then there is a drain on the bottom of it to release the moisture. How many threaded ports are on the exhaust manifold?

The gold topped thing here is where the top port on the manifold runs to on the pass side.

I have a California model (somehow it got all the way to MD), and my AIV has one port on either side.

I'm not near it now, so here's a drawing I made up:

Sorry Datte, antivirus decided to do some work and booted me off the net for a bit. 85-86 720 trucks used the z24I and you might be able to look at the 720 fsm and find what you need. This explains the AIV operation.

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repair ... 528004f3b7

Looks like the California model shows both ports to the exhaust manifold, based on the drawing you showed it looks like the AIV case you have for the vg30i which is the last drawing or could be for 4wd. I really have to get some shut eye. I will check back tomorrow and see where you are at. Good luck man.
