I have lashed the valves gaped the plugs & tinkered with the idle. When I bought the truck it had a very high idle and valve train noise and a miss, I found a vacuum line pulling vacuum hooked to another pulling vacuum. Plugged off the miss got better and it still would try to die when I put it in gear.

Today I cleaned the throttle body and checked for a leaking intake or throttle body gasket leak. I looked in the air filter housing and noticed a hole on the pass. side near the rear pulling STRONG vacuum. When I covered it the miss was gone and idle was perfect, even in gear. I drove it around the block after it warmed up and it ran great.

Looks like something is missing and I was hoping someone could tell me what goes there or if someone could take a picture of theirs. There is also a nipple on the drivers side that looks like a vacuum line hooks to.

Many thanks to anyone who can help. We don't have emissions testing here but I would like to have it right because it will be kids driving it.

yeah I've got something there. From memory I want to say that it is connected to the pipe that goes to the catalytic converter, after it runs through some other vacuum operated valve. lemme go check.

Actually, I don't know what that thing does. Mines not hooked up. there are some nice pictures of it on an earlier post on mine.

Thanks for the reply's, working 12 hr shifts this weekend. Your hand is covering the source of the vacuum here

That runs to the bottom of the air filter housing and you can see where i put a bolt in the hole sucking the vacuum on the rear left in the first pic. and it looks like something went there. If I remove the bolt it runs like crap shudder, spits and missing

You can also see the port or nipple next to the small filter that may have had a line run to to, not sure because this was how I bought it.

Thanks for the help.

I thought I remember seeing a diagram in my Haynes manual for all that stuff.

I know you are very busy, but have you took off the air filter housing to see where that vacuum source is coming from? With that strong of a pull like you described, it sounds like it goes straight to the intake manifold.

It is fed from the manifold but was anything on the inside of the air cleaner opposite the vacuum source? The truck runs like crap unless its plugged, its like a 1/2 inch bladder in the lower portion of the air cleaner.

Thanks

Here is the z24i vacuum diagram...[IMG][/IMG]

Looks to me (according to the diagram) that the tube in question is the EGR control solenoid valve.
